Whoa! Where the hell am I?

When I closed my eyes, I could still see the after-image of the harrier jet menacing the elephant ever closer and closer to the edge of the aircraft carrier's deck. My hand still felt the weight of the detonator's battery.

When I opened my eyes again, I was here. I don't know where my clothes are, or even if I ever had any. The wrench is bent just enough to be almost useless. Every time my attention strays to something else - the approaching comet that's filling more and more of the sky, say - I feel the unbending finger-branches of their antlers press harder into my back and sides. It's clear they won't let me stop until I've repaired this ruined machine.

The air here is too dry.

Maybe if I just close my eyes again...

Maybe if I just close them tight enough...

    I'm at the very beginning of an 8-week training course.  It's like a slow, boring college course mixed with your standard corporate training.  So far, I'm mainly bored and tired from getting up so early, but I've had jobs that have paid less for way more work, so I'm doing fine!
