(including going to a lunch at the Savoy "in my honour"). Hope to start writing again soon, probably some songs first.

    About me:
Too much to tell. Life is currently great. All my family are well and happy. My children and daughter-in-law are wonderful. I have a great job and some good friends.....and two lovely dogs. I love singing, walking, going out, socialising, and have just started writing again. Life is good...

Things people have said about me...well, you have to blow your own trumpet occasionally....

Except I really believe that what people say tells you more about themselves than the person they're talking about!

"Beautifully idiosyncratic" (RM). "Motherly with a touch of siren", P. Wilde (1990s work context). "My bed is a desert without you and other women mirages", WOW!!! P. Mallory deceased(1980s). "A very forgiving person" (1990s) and "You deserve better luck than you have enjoyed in life so far" (2006) D. Coupland. "I didn't know you were so much fun when you were drunk. I thought the melons really suited you." Steve L (Jan 2005). "You have conducted yourself with grace and understanding" Rose (April 2007) "You were so awesome on Thursday, I wish we'd filmed you to show you!", Vicky (June 2007)

Profile music is by Bronwen Harrison who can be heard playing and singing my song "Glastonbury Tor" on my other myspace site - see 1st friend below for the link. Use link on the left for Bronwen's site. See the 1066 myspace site for more on the film and the music.

See the Marlow Bottom Acoustic Club site and Karen's Songs site (link by clicking on them in the friends list below) for more of the music I & others get up to.

    Who I'd like to meet:
People I've lost touch with over the years, e.g. Mike Baird, jazz drummer (from Holland & at Leicester Uni)) and Pete Williams (was a journalist in London after being at Leicester Uni). People that like doing the same things as me and need someone to do them with. ....Hurrah! I've found Mike Baird at long last!

Myspace Friends. My intention is to only have friends that I actually know, not to collect numerous people I do not know. However, I'm always open to making real new friends!

Great to hear from you, Karen. Good timing, too, as I'm off to Lumb Bank on Wednesday to give a guest reading. I was there teaching a week a couple of months ago and loved it. (Who was I teaching with when we met? I have a terrible memory and it's getting worse.) Last week was on holiday in County Kerry and saw some bodhran players right up close and as always I reaffirmed my burning desire to learn to play the damn thing. I did try to find a teacher (in Manchester), but he'd moved to Huddersfield. It seemed a bit far to go. I'm going to check out your stuff on the other site now.

Noticed 'Atonement' in your book list. This would make my top 5. Looking forward to the film, which is out soon, and has great pre-reviews.

1066 is probably the most famous date in English history
Follow the fortunes of a future blockbuster movie!

Thankyou to all who have "come on set" - to make this movie we have to sort out funding - big movies mean big budgets - we therefore need to generate a huge interest, so sorry yes, this site is blatant number collecting - we want at least 1066 friends! BUT - this is a genuine site about a genuine project that is in its early stages of development. I will be posting news, updates etc as and when anything happens about the proposed film.

YOU can have a chance to see behind the scenes of the making of a blockbuster movie from start to (hopefully!)finish... so come and join 1066 - the Movie

    NOW
click here and join 1066 - the movie

Tell all your friends - together we can get this movie made!

p.s drop by the 1066 site - leave a comment – who do YOU want to star in it? And visit the blogs, add your views about the history behind Harold II.
p.p.s don’t forget to read the novel! Harold the King by me - Helen Hollick

    Hello Karen,
Very pleased that you like the photograph. It was taken on the east coast of Zanzibar where I was recovering after climbing Mt Meru and Kilimanjaro. The colours really were that beautiful. The Bottle Tree on the front of the CD was taken just a few miles away and the corkscrew palm tree was in the centre of the island
