KAREN FOWLIE: A mainstay in the Vancouver music scene, Karen Fowlie has received considerable acclaim for her live performances and recordings. Karen’s voice might remind you of Neko Case’s soft sultry tones mixed with Nancy Wilson’s (Heart) dynamic vocal capability. Add to the mix Karen’s dear friend Christie McPhee and other treasured West Coast musicians and you’ve got the West Coast Sound Experience. This year Karen has been asked to be the host for the 2012 Vancouver Centennial Stage in West Vancouver and her band will be on the main stage at two major festivals in July - Mountainfest and the Great Canadian Bike Rally. Several of Karen’s recorded works have been featured in the Province Playlist and her music represented BC in a recent Trade Mission to Japan. BC’s Attorney General has given Karen the honour of an accolade for her songwriting.     "Great seeing you, Karen!", Trooper wrote about Karen Fowlie after her band's performance at the 2011 Great Canadian Bike Rally. Karen went on tour for two weeks this summer, playing her original music in shows across Western Canada. Her final performance in the "Be a Trooper" tour was on main stage in Merritt opening for the great Canadian classic rock band, Trooper. . Karen isn't a stranger to the music scene - her songs have obtained notable local and national exposure. You can hear music from Fowlie's last CD, "Pushing the Edge" (Producer Dale Penner – Nickelback, Matthew Good Band) on three compilation CDs, the 2010 "Thunderstruck 9" extreme snowmobiling DVD and several songs have been featured in the Province Newspaper Playlist. Consumers of Hevy D popcorn across Canada have downloaded her songs, Karen's music represented BC in a Trade Mission to Japan and Fowlie has even received an accolade by BC's Attorney General for her songwriting. . With an energetic stage presence and superb delivery of original songs, Karen Fowlie delivers an exciting show not to be missed. From shows at large festivals like the Great Canadian Bike Rally, the Winter Olympics Torch Run and Plaza of Nations Stage to more intimate solo performances for the City of North Vancouver and private house concerts, Fowlie's love of performing is evident. . Being a mother herself, Karen feels that it is important to help the youth in her community. She's worked with children in the Sea to Sky corridor over the last seven years developing their musical talents. "I enjoy helping kids sing, play guitar and write their own music", says Fowlie. "It's sweet heart work". . Currently, Karen is booking her live show for next year's festivals and is preparing to head into the recording studio this fall/winter to record her sophomore album. .
