Karen McNatt- keyboard, guitar, mandolin
Don McNatt- guitar and bass
Influences
I have to say Carole King was my biggest influence as a teenager. She showed me you can play piano to any style of music and write from your heart.I also used to pretend I was Karen Carpenter except I played piano, loved their sound. I know I was touched deeply by Dan Fogelbergs music.also the Beatles. Loved all the rock and country greats, Elton John, Allman Brothers Fleetwood Mac and Lynyrd Skynyrd Country influences have to be Dolly, The Judds, Jessi Colter, Dixie Chicks, Reba, Martina, and my all time favorite Tricia Yearwood. Oh, I almost forgot, Lee Ann Womack and always have been in awe of Bonnie Raitt, Faith Hill. I am always interested in hearing great songwriters and musicians, they inspire me and influence all my music. Most recent influence is my talented and wonderful husband Don McNatt who supports me, teaches me and pushes me to go out there and do this.
I am having the best time of my life writing and performing my original music along with my husband of 4 years Don McNatt.
I inherited a love for music from my incredibly talented musical family. My father was a writer and played every stringed musical instrument including pickin" the guitar Chet Atkins style. My brothers and sisters all play and sing harmony.
I sang in church and played and sang at home or weddings mostly until meeting Don who encouraged me to get out and play my music at writers nights. There I found I enjoyed performing and people seemed to enjoy my music. That alone improved me as a writer and singer.
My husband Don McNatt is an accomplished writer and guitar picker and sings great harmony and lead vocals. Our duets of love songs are some of our favorite songs to do. Don was raised in Memphis and played with some of the great blues artists and therefore developed an awesome soul style that can recreate the 60"s soul music and sound we all love.
Some of the most fun we have is doing the songs from the 60's and 70's from a style long gone by most atists but not forgtten by our age group. We hope to appeal to a large audience of baby boomers who love to reminisce and enjoy their favorite music.
I was blessed with five children: son Barry Dean, and four daughters Heidi Dean, Vanessa Dean, Valerie Dean and Alison Dean. They in turn have blessed me with nine, count 'em nine of the most beautiful grandkids on the planet! They have given me inspiration and lots of writing material. I want to leave them with lots of musical memories and a legacy they will pass on to all their offspring. My mother and father never got to hear my music so it is really important to me that I give my kids the chance to at least hear my heart through my music. I want them to know me. They are great kids that will go on to do great things.
