About me:
My name is Karen E. Quinones Miller, and I'm the author of "Satin Doll," "I'm Telling," "Using What You Got," "Ida B." and "Uptown Dreams" -- all of which I'm proud to say have been Essense Bestsellers ("Ida B." was also nominated for an NAACP Image Award!)

My latest novel - Passin' will be out in Feb. 2008, and I hope you'll be able to attend the Passin' Launch Party being held here in Philly on Feb. 16th at Warmdaddy's.

Check out my blog for more information about the Launch Party and to read an excerpt from Passin' - but here's what my novel is about:

She’s Light, Bright, and Damn Near White . . . and Now She’s Crossing Over To The Other Side!

Shanika Ann Jenkins is the pride of her African-American family; blonde, blue-eyed, and beautiful. Most of her relatives are pleased with how she represents years of passing down light skin, and marrying well - though her mother insists she remember and respect her true African-American heritage and so gives her a name which reflects her ethnicity.

But when Shanika is turned down for a job at a PR firm because she’s not black enough to fill the company’s unofficial African-American quota, she changes her name to Nicole, and obtains another position at the firm.

It’s not her fault, she reasons, that everyone assumes she’s white.

But the more she gets, the more people she hurts – and when a successful African-American businessman thinks Shanika is the white woman of his dreams, her world spins out of control.

With her future on the line, she’ll have to go beyond skin-deep to discover what’s really worth reaching for—and the person she truly wants to be.

For more information on Passin’ go to www.passingonline.com - or better yet, check out the Passin’ myspace page at www.myspace.com/passin

I'm also the editor of a really hot book by "Miss T." called "The Guide To Becoming The Sensuous Black Woman (And Drive Your Man Wild In and Out of Bed!)

(All of my books are available in book stores nationwide as well as online at www.theblacklibrary.com or www.Amazon.com)

I'm originally from Harlem (that's in New York City for those of you who REALLY don't know!), but have lived in Philly for the past 19 years. I still spend a lot of time in Harlem, though.

I originally self-published my first book, "Satin Doll," before it was picked up by Simon & Schuster. I'm now with Warner Books, but because of my own background in self-publishing I have a real affinity for self-published authors and hustlers in general.

“HOW TO OBSERVE THANKSGIVING”

Count your blessings instead of your crosses; Count your gains instead of your losses.
Count your joys instead of your woes; Count your friends instead of your foes.
Count your smiles instead of your tears; Count your courage instead of your fears.
Count your full years instead of your lean; Count your kind deeds instead of your mean.
Count your health instead of your wealth; Count on God instead of yourself.

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above..." James 1:17 "In everything give thanks" (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

We Also Thank God For Wonderful Friends Like You! Happy Thanksgiving Dear Friend!!!

Sunset Out My Window
Alone at sunset with Luther singing, “I thought about cha..”
I chase so many thoughts of you, my heart races
Sun redden pillow clouds, and a few stars start to shine through, framing your beauty
You got a halo
Staring out my window, sunset and you, reflect in my future
As God, and you are the sunrise of my life, and a first kiss, my first taste of life, as my feet hit the ground
I wait for you
Smiles of thoughts of you ring on the hour on
Knowing you will be here later just after the sun has hid
I have dinner ready
I have our humble abode fit for the royalty we are
I see you walk through the door
We slow dance, holding still
Earth Wind & Fire sings, “Be Ever Wonderful”
We share a human glass of intoxicating kisses
No longer alone
We make our own sunset

Here is a passage from my best selling romantic novel, BRUSH STROKES
“A
man may admire what a woman does for a living; he may admire her
education and social circle. He may be enamored with her physical
beauty, but he only truly falls in love, with the softest and warmest
part of her, her soul.”

Riding In The Rain
I saw you why riding in the rain
Thoughts of you played like a movie
As rain drops fell, and misted on my face shield,
I slowed down to enjoy thinking about you
And I slowed down to make sure I got back to you
The rain was warm; I could see a Rainbow ahead
My silver lining trimmed in red hummed underneath me
Two-wheels stayed down, I stayed up, under control, as my heart raced wanting to get you
Spray spread, with my feelings forever widening
The rain is dropping; it’s music, keeping a beat, and firing on time
I feel your passionate heart on my back
You’re there, behind me, holding on, as rain runs down, in-between
We’re riding in the rain, liquid sunshine, hot coming up, and coming down
We reach our destination
Center stand down, feet on the ground
We face, and kiss the mist
The dampness is sweet
