My name is Karen E. Quinones Miller, and I'm the author of "Satin Doll," "I'm Telling," "Using What You Got," "Ida B." and "Uptown Dreams" -- all of which I'm proud to say have been Essense Bestsellers ("Ida B." was also nominated for an NAACP Image Award!)
My latest novel - Passin' will be out in Feb. 2008, and I hope you'll be able to attend the Passin' Launch Party being held here in Philly on Feb. 16th at Warmdaddy's.
Check out my blog for more information about the Launch Party and to read an excerpt from Passin' - but here's what my novel is about:
She’s Light, Bright, and Damn Near White . . . and Now She’s Crossing Over To The Other Side!
Shanika Ann Jenkins is the pride of her African-American family; blonde, blue-eyed, and beautiful. Most of her relatives are pleased with how she represents years of passing down light skin, and marrying well - though her mother insists she remember and respect her true African-American heritage and so gives her a name which reflects her ethnicity.
But when Shanika is turned down for a job at a PR firm because she’s not black enough to fill the company’s unofficial African-American quota, she changes her name to Nicole, and obtains another position at the firm.
It’s not her fault, she reasons, that everyone assumes she’s white.
But the more she gets, the more people she hurts – and when a successful African-American businessman thinks Shanika is the white woman of his dreams, her world spins out of control.
With her future on the line, she’ll have to go beyond skin-deep to discover what’s really worth reaching for—and the person she truly wants to be.

I'm also the editor of a really hot book by "Miss T." called "The Guide To Becoming The Sensuous Black Woman (And Drive Your Man Wild In and Out of Bed!)
(All of my books are available in book stores nationwide as well as online at www.theblacklibrary.com or www.Amazon.com)
I'm originally from Harlem (that's in New York City for those of you who REALLY don't know!), but have lived in Philly for the past 19 years. I still spend a lot of time in Harlem, though.
I originally self-published my first book, "Satin Doll," before it was picked up by Simon & Schuster. I'm now with Warner Books, but because of my own background in self-publishing I have a real affinity for self-published authors and hustlers in general.
