On the vocal cusp of Norah Jones, Natalie Merchant, and Tracy Chapman, this sweet-meets-sultry voice offers a smooth familiarity while sounding fresh.
Karen Naomi's debut album, Blind, was released in 2005; a pop-influenced acoustic based EP of six songs featuring guitarist and solo artist Jamie Schultz, bassist Keith Bryant, and jazz musician and drummer Jaelun Washington.
In her hometown of Dallas, TX, Karen was once chosen as Quick DFW's Band of the Week. Upon moving to Austin, TX during the spring of 2007 she had a TV appearance on a SXSW edition of HDNet's True Music w/Katie Daryl. Karen is expected to return to the studio and begin working on her follow-up full length album in 2008.
Should you catch a live show, be prepared for layered live acoustic guitar sampling reminiscent of Howie Day, along with an outpour of candid, introspective lyrics topped off with soothing, soulful vocals.
Obligatory rant:
I'm a vegan of 5 years and vegetarian 2 years prior; initially due to animal welfare concerns, but over time it also encompassed health, environmental, economic, and overall ethical benefits. Regardless of your views on what defines "ethical," it should be known that meat consumption is an inefficient means of feeding humans due to the food/land/water resources livestock requires. Have some kale.
