Some beautiful music you want in your car, your ipod, your old tape player, your 8-track, your record player and in your head when all is still and quiet...
Originally from Ann Arbor, Michigan, Kari Newhouse (pronounced Kah-ree) has been playing guitar and creating music since the tender age of five. Pleading with her parents for guitar lessons, she was told by several teachers she was just too young. But after visiting many music shops and meeting with many guitar teachers, Kari captured the eye of a young musician who offered to teach her. And with just a few chords, her love and need for creating music grew.
Winner of the 1999 Detroit Lilith Fair Talent Search, Newhouse performed to a crowd of over 10,000.
Kari has always been fascinated with the recording aspect of music. She’s progressed from recording on her Dad’s reel-to-reel to doing most of her recording in her own home studio. She helped produce and record her three albums, “Playing Juliet,” “Lit at Both Ends,” and "Cities and Ghosts".
In 2000, Kari moved to Los Angeles. For eight years she played shows throughout the L.A. area. Her songs were discovered and were used in several independent films.
Recently moving to Portland, Oregon, a town that is just as beautiful as its artists, Kari's music and creativity have grown beyond the boundaries of traditional classifications. "Cities and Ghosts" is Newhouse's newest release, available now.
