Put your email in below:.. .... ....Official Karl Messner Website.... .... ..Karl Messner.. Karl Messner is a Christian guitarist from Pittsburgh PA. He is best known for co-founding Christian parody band, ApologetiX in 1992. He played about 1,000 concerts with ApologetiX and left the band in September of 2007. Since then he's been pursuing other music and non-music interests. Rumblings of a solo project continue to circulate :) .... ApologetiX is sort of the Weird Yankovic of Christian music. ApologetiX Lyrics aim to teach people about what the Christian Faith is all about. Karl's job was to bring ApologetiX Lyrics to life with music, video and live concerts. ApologetiX songs even made it to Weird Al, who told Karl that he thought it was "Fantastic Work." .... Karl worked with Weird Yankovic when they were in Pittsburgh and borrowed their drummer, Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz to play drums on the band's Biblical Graffii album. .... ..Karl Messner's Musical Beginnings.. Karl comes from a family of musicians. His mother and father sang and played in bands since they were kids. His mom, Shirley and her sister, Betty, sang regularly on Wilkins Amateur Hour in Pittsburgh in the 40's. Karl's father, Len, performed regularly at jamborees and jam sessions often taking a young Karl with him. Karl got to play with Bill Monroe in Monongahela, PA at once such jamboree. .... Karl really started to pick up guitar at 12 when his dad left his guitar at the house before taking a 3 year job in Texas (his parents had been divorced since Karl was 4). He told him not to touch the guitar, and Karl was tuning it up by the time dad was pulling out of the driveway. he found some old records in the basement. Buck Owens and Chet Atkins from the 60's. Karl was hooked, and soon was playing them over and over and picking them out by ear. His school bus came at 6:30am and Karl set his alarm every morning for 5am and got up and played guitar for an hour before getting ready for school. He played guitar nearly every day of his life since age 12. .... Karl's never had lessons. .... In the late 80's Chet Atkins came to Pittsburgh and Karl and his girlfriend went to see him. After the spellbinding performance, Karl grabbed her hand and they ran out the building, down the street around back, and banged on the staqge door enterance and said, "We need to see Chet!" Was she ever surprised when Chet came out and talked to them in the business office lobby for a few minutes, just the three of them. "Is it true that you used to use screen door wire for your guitar?" .... "Sure is Karl- I didn't have ANY money back then." .... Karl is currently working on the hybrid picking style pioneered by Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and Marcel Dadi. Maybe we'll get to hear some someday? .... ..Karl Messner - ApologetiX.. For 15 years, Karl worked with ApologetiX, an amazingly talented braintrust of gifted musicians. Karl produced and performed on 14 albums. Each album chock full of brilliant and sometimes funny parodies of pop, rock and country music from the 50's to today. ApologetiX music continues to be heard around the world, ApologetiX mp3 music is available on itunes and you can even hear Karl singing most of the backing vocals as well as a few forays to the lead vocal. .... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. Karl and the signature "Drumstick Solo" to CheapBirds (a parody of Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd) From the DVD, Samson Comes Alive (2005). (Watch the drama at 1:31 when his wireless unit FALLS OF in the middle of the hardest solo in the universe) An ..even better performance of that can be found here.., but the audio stinketh. But it's probably the only time we achieved drumstick catch AND successful drumstick BOUNCE and CATCH (at 2:02). (pardon the OMG at 2:30) ..Karl Messner Post-APX.. "Karl left the band to focus on the family and pursue other interests" the press release said. He hung his guitar up on the wall in his studio and didn't touch it for over a year. "I'm not picking that up until I MISS it." After playing it every day since before he was a teenager, and hours and hours and hours in the studio every year, he wondered if he'd ever feel like picking it back up. But about a year later he did, and has started a whole new chapter of music in his life. Still a student of the instrument, he's finding new sounds, and songs in that six string every day. .... .... ..New Album Announced.. Karl will be going into the studio this summer to record his first solo studio album."Liberty" will be released late 2009 or early 2010.
