About me: Karren Alenier, A.K.A. the Steiny Road Poet and the Dresser, has published five volumes of poetry including Looking for Divine Transportation, winner of the 2002 Towson Prize for Literature. Her opera Gertrude Stein Invents a Jump Early On with composer William Banfield premiered in New York City in June 2005 by Encompass New Opera Theatre under the stage direction and development by Nancy Rhodes with music direction by John Yaffe.
She is also author of The Steiny Road to Operadom: The Making of American Operas, a new book that unfolds the story of opera in American -- how it comes about and the challenges getting it on stage. The Steiny Road Poet, a cross between Alice in Wonderland and Voltaire's Candide, narrates this book. The book is written in a style anyone can read and is lots of fun.
Who I'd like to meet: Barbara Quick, author of Vivaldi's Virgins, and other litterati, composers, visual artists, dancers, and philosophers. Also anyone who has a spark for the spoken word.
