Proposed state budget cuts are threatening the funding and quality of Alameda's public schools. The Governor's proposed suspension of Proposition 98 guaranteed funding and reductions in base funding will result in a shortfall of $4.5m in Alameda Unified Schools District's (AUSD) budget. Without alternative sources of revenue, this shortfall will lead to devastating staffing and program cuts in our public schools.
KASE is pulling together a group of concerned Alamedans – parents, teachers, local leaders and activists – to coordinate and drive a community response to the proposed cuts.
In addition to lobbying state leaders to vote against the proposed cuts, KASE strongly believes that Alamedans should take direct action to maintain the excellence of our local public schools, by instituting a temporary parcel tax to offset state budget cuts.
