Kasha is a four-piece modern rock band formed in Canberra at the Australian National University in 2008.
Kasha fuses modern rock and rhythmic elements of electronic music to create an innovative sound influenced by contemporaries such as Battles, My Disco, Fugazi, Radiohead, Sigur Ros and The Mars Volta.
Since their formation Kasha has thrilled audiences with tight and energetic live shows. They have managed to consistently pack out venues and have played alongside Numbers Radio, Chambers, Hoodlum Shouts, Cat Cat and The Fighting League.
Kasha received an Australia Council ‘Soundclash’ grant that funded a six-day creative process in preparation for recording their debut EP 'five songs for sunstroke'. This grant is awarded to music which takes risks and demonstrates innovation within the popular music form.
The debut EP 'five songs for sunstroke' was recorded live in one room to capture Kasha’s raw live sound. It was recorded and mixed by Richard Belkner at Free Energy Device, who has worked with Triosk, Pivot, and Showa 44. It was mastered by Oscar Gaona at Studios 301.
"They are some very talented Canberrans...I look forward to their Debut EP"
Steph Hughes - Triple J
“It’s energetic and raw and is a good example of why brain and braun aren’t mutually exclusive.”
Matt Hickey - whothehell.net
"Sounding like a whole lot of music genres having an orgy, Canberra band Kasha blended different music styles and tempos flawlessly, creating a new sound that is sure to get them noticed. Rocking guitar and precise drumming was the drawcard… In fact, most of the set sounded like a very tight jamming session, with everyone in the crowd loving the results... overall, Kasha was the highlight of the night."
