Life has never been easy. Somehow I was looking for difficult situations to strenghten myself, to explore. Till in '82 i've put myself and my children in a very dangerous situation. But at that time I became aware of the capacity of our mind, the fire within and the strong will to come out of this alive. I was confronted with demons and devils(of course metaphorical) of my friend in this period that gave insight into my own. Living isolated in the mountains sometimes there was no escape. I learned completely intuitivily the forces shamans used. I became an eagle, a wild cat, a lioness defending my life and the life of my children. The work I'm making now is a result of it It shows the possibility to find our own rituals to heal and to survive and to keep the fire in one's soul burning (it has nothing to do with following a guru).
Although I'm not related to some religion, I can see in every religion valuable things.
It didn't amaze me that all this was happening in the area where the Kathar people (called heretics) were caught by the inquisition and burned at the end, leaving a lot of mysteries behind. We can read about it in a lot of books today f.e(Umberto Ecco).
I did some research about this phenomenon. I became very interested in energies going on between people. To understand certain things i studied hypnosis and healing work with energy etc not with the purpose to do it as a job, but out of interest and doing experiments on myself.
My work is also influenced by greek mythology.
It became my passion when I was young(greek-latin studies). So I did an interpretation of the Pythia relating it to nowedays. I also think we have to interpret our signs and dreams ourselves what was not the case with the oracle of Delphi and many other oracles.
My first rockband had the name of a Kathar woman who comitted suicide to escape torture and a certain death, she did "endura" (=fasting) too long which means not eating till death follows. It was a couragous act because she knew that being tortured she could reveil names of friends ,although they were trained, she didn't want to be caught and betray her friends , she didn't know how she would act under extreme continuous torture.
When I once discovered the work of Garcia Lorca and the work of Leo Ferre; I knew i had to follow a voice within.
Politically seen we are confronted with the extremes of religion ,so these hunting stories ,very destructif ones repeat. As we can see leaders, not acting wise but out of greed,, are very dangerous and they know the tricks to keep on going, strenghtened by some sidemen (also women sometimes). So we have to develop our own wisdom. Anarchy is maybe the only way or is this Utopia? I have a special message for Socrates who I think was after all not the wisest:-).
Transcendence,
het tweede deel van een installatie in 1997 gepresenteerd in het Muhka :Pythia links to Pythagoras".(KasjaNoova en Merlin(http://www.myspace.com/markburghgraeve). Frederic Audoye werkte mee aan de muziek en de gelinkte muziekprojecten van Transcendence.
Een deel van de installatie Transcendence: het Labyrint is een metafoor voor de samenleving. De basis is een symbooltje, drie aaneengeknoopte takjes, dat zich duizenden malen herhaalt, zoals een voortplanting. Net zoals wij onderling allemaal verschillen en uniek zijn is toch het basisgegeven hetzelfde . We zoeken contact hechten ons aan mekaar en tussen die hele kluwen moet ieder zijn weg vinden. Er zijn er die overal hechtingspunten hebben, er zijn er die aan de rand zweven en dus ook niet compleet "hechten" in de samenleving... binnen gelijk welke groep gelijk welke huidskleur, dat zijn diegene die vreemd gevonden worden. Het symbooltje op zich staat voor onvoorwaardelijke liefde. Het is een utopisch gegeven , maar het streven ernaar behoedt ons voor een zekere domheid en het leidt naar zelfonderzoek in plaats van anderen te willen veranderen en schept vrijheid.
Een ander deel de gang naar de Transcendence hut is een weg naar een meditatieruimte waarin diegene die er zich bevindt beschenen wordt door de symbooltjes de leegte manifesteert zich zodat er een zaadje gepland kan worden op een tabula rasa.
Het derde deel zijn bronzen wandsculpturen in tattoo-achtige vormen die ook op prints terugkomen (geschilderde ruggen met verzen tussen geschreven. Tussen die vormen hangen delen uit lyrics.
Het vierde deel zijn stapels met steeds hetzelfde symbool. Het doet ietwat het verband leggen met hekserij door de gebruikte materialen.. En inderdaad het is een verwijzijng naar een brandstapel... Die is door het opstapelen van het onvoorwaargelijke een stille getuige naar alle uitgestotenen, vervolgden, uitgeroeide groepen. De symbooltjes houden de hoop in een bewustzijnsverandering in zodanig dat "het opeenstapelen" of bijeenbrengen van een massa ons niet ontneemt van onze eigen verantwoordelijkheid.
Het vijfde deel zijn backprints. Op ruggen geschilderde tattoo-achtige vleugels met een tekst tussen (uit when the Pythia mumbles) 39 verzen. ( ook als muziekproject uitgewerkt in 11 verschillende talen,ieder een eigen soundwall)
Dan zijn er nog roestige plaatjes (21) waardoor heen de reeks de stukjes van een in woede stukgeslagen spiegel zijn gebruikt. De tekst recycling rage with childish pleasure verwijst naar een naief gebaar om de woede te transcenderen in iets speels . Zoals een kind dat de ruzie tussen zijn ouders wil goedmaken . De pluimpjes takjes en schelpjes en steentjes die eronder zweven geven het geheel terug iets luchtigs.
PS Het symbool schijnt achteraf door opzoeking en vergelijking wel in andere opzichten met de onderliggende gedachte verbonden te zijn.(hexagrammen(opheffen van tegengestelde krachten), het zespuntig gegeven komt ook terug in de opbouw van de zenuwcellen,neuron)
Er is ook een zeer speels element verbonden met het project net zoals kinderen met een mecano of lego spelen kan met dit symbooltje ontelbare constructies gemaakt worden .Het verwijst dus ook naar een speels aspect levend houden .
Een deel van de installatie zal gebruikt worden om in een loge in de Singel op 29 -05-2009 de sfeer te scheppen van een gematerialiseerde "rituele"plaats waar de acteur, de actrice, de muzikant zich terugtrekt om voor een optreden zijn evenwicht te vinden en dan vanuit de leegte te kunnen putten uit alle shapes en shadows van het menselijke zijn en zich te verbinden met de vibraties nodig om zijn rol te kunnen spelen. Artiesten hebben heel veel verschillende rituelen voor een optreden.
Hij gaat door de gang in de hut zitten en wordt met zichzelf geconfronteerd in de spiegel. De troonachtige stoel symboliseert op dat moment "de troon", hij of zij is belangrijk.

hello, kasja... I had a 10 days stay there and had a wonderful time. it's a great place specially for artists. It was my first time, but not the last. The feeling I got was very nice and I felt comfortable immediately. That's why I love berlin...the nightlife is fantastic as well...
