  • Bio

Lady Katalyst is a poet and hiphop artist based in Montreal, Canada. She has been performing professionally as a solo artist and with the Kalmunity Vibe Collective throughout Canada and parts of the US for over nine years. Her styles range from Hiphop to Spoken word to Jazzy melodic flows. She is not your typical spoken word artist and her approach to hiphop is noticeably influenced by both soul and funk music. Her lyrics are about real life experiences combined with story telling and she embraces and fuses styles of poetry from the past, present and future fantasy. She is a dichotomy of philosophies and explores contradictions and hypocrisy, love and lust, the concrete and abstract. Her work and performances range from a'capella spoken word sets to improvised performances with Kalmunity to her own musical group, The Katalyst 5 Project. She has performed at several poetry and music festivals including Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Ottawa's Scribology Festival, Intimate Sky performance series, Toronto's Dub Poet's Collective Poetry Festival, Irie Reggae Festival, Toronto's International Poetry Slam, The Maximum Blues Festival and more. She has also been featured in four of "The Art of Performing Aural Sex" poetry events in Montreal and Toronto and her work has been published in Kalmunity's anthology "The Talking Book". Katalyst's debut album, "Souliloquies", brings words spoken, songs sung and raps flowed; blurring the lines between musical genres like hiphop, jazz, blues, reggae and soul. Her digital re-release with four new remixes featuring Rise Ashen, Manny Ward, Hi-Budget and Conn Shawnery is now in the works. Katalyst's involvement in the Montreal Arts scene goes back more than a decade as a multi-disciplinary artist. Some of her previous projects include: "Concordia's Annual Hiphop Symposium", "The Movement Museum" and "Hersay", two talk shows on CKUT 90.3FM and she also teaches poetry workshops for groups like Kick Action, The Black Theater Workshop, the City of Montreal and The Kalmunity Vibe Collective. Consistently pushing forward, Katalyst is always on the go and building new projects for the future. Along with performing with the Kalmunity Vibe Collective, she is also the collective's program director and with over 15 years of experience in promotions and event planning she has produced several successful events. Be on the look out for upcoming events, radio shows and a new ep
