About me:
Who am I
The one who is
When she's not
Conceived
In lonely ravines
I am who I am
A stone
Grinded by the ocean of time
I am but a seed
That wind spreads
On the paths Unwandered
(written in bonny Borders, Scotland, in August 2003)
This is a beautiful vanishing Cerknica lake where I was growing up. Preciouss Slovenian poetess Neza Maurer once wrote a song about this breathtakingly unique nature's piece of work:
Peace is coming back to me
Like Cerknica lake
In its green basin
Dried for all the summer
From sources within it comes
I don't know them
But I know they are within me
They are mine
Tranquility is born in them
And so is love.

I'm an anthropologist/ethnologist/ethnomusicologist (as you like it) by profession and by passion. That - roughly translated - means I go places and nag people with all sorts of annoying questions about their life and times, music and whatnot. If you look at the cartoon below, all you have to do is picture kilted people trying to hide their super dooper sound desks or amps ('oh, where did that ancient grandad's fiddle made in China go?') instead and you get what I'm after :-)))
I'm a freelance music writer, covering mostly world/folk/trad/roots music from all over the globe. I am regularly publishing music articles, interviews, reviews, essays... in Slovene music magazine Muska (also a member of the publishing board), but done few bits and bobs for other Slovene magazines, newspapers (Mladina, Vecer...) and festivals (Druga godba, Boljunec etno festival). I have also published my writings in British newspapers and magazines, namely Songlines, The Shetland Times, Orkney Today, The Living Tradition, TMSA Scotland (my work was also credited in The Press and Journal, Shetland Weekly, and fRoots)... The chapter on Slovene music that will be published in the new 'The Rough Guide to World Music - Europe' is my fruit of labour as well.

SOMETHING ON WHERE I WANT TO BE...
"Once I said to myself that everything was in tatters for me here, that maybe I should be on the other side of this world. I pushed a knitting needle through a puffed-up globe, to see where the needle penetrated and when I pulled it out, the world imploded and only polyvinyl rag was left. Well, I knew where I would be better off but that didn't help much, as the world evaporated."

Part of the idea is to enable small-scale producers, copyright owners of digital works (songs,tunes,videos,data) to publish and charge for downloading. Music and tune wise we have sorted, still working on video. As well as 'Raremusez Basement' (all tunes free or 55p) the download area, there is a Members site allowing registered users to upload mp3 files which can then be published at the basement. Can you pass on details to whoever you think might be interested. Charges/costs and how to are available to registered members. The site is built on the Joomla open source framework so large scope for development and hosting.
Cheers Coopz new tunes

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare;
Sea, country and works scent the air;
A multitude of monuments,
Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls;
The remnants of defensive walls;
Historic buildings are a gauge
Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields;
Estuaries guarded by shields;
Long sandy beaches and wide scenes;
Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees,
Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries,
And crossed by practical delights -
Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham;
Football kits ad infinitum;
Kept castles - one for study;
Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way,
It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?

Hi Kat,
Hows things with you? I had an interesting add yesterday - an Enoch Kent - who was instrumental in reviving the traditional Scottish folk songs in the 60s and set up the Singers Club with Ewan McColl and Peggy Seeger no less. He now lives in Canada. After a 35 year break, at the age of 70, he has been recording again! I do enjoy when I find something worthwhile on here amongst the nonsense. What have you been doing recently? best Paulinex
