Katatonia's Interests
|
| General | Since I was a young kid, I've always been a lover of Heavy Metal. Having several cousins into the Hard Rock and Metal scene of the time helped greatly, and they often loaned me various Vinyls from their collection. The first bands I really got into were Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Blue Öyster Cult, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, KISS, The Scorpions, Blue Cheer, The Doors, Hendrix, and the other essential classics of the time.
By the time that I was a teen I was seeking out the more extreme bands, whether they be local or from far distant lands. I've never cared anything about passing trends, or what's in or out, thus I freely like (and often dislike) what my ears and brain ultimately process without any outside persuasions. I honestly could care less what current trend is in or out today, listen to what ever the hell you like and stand by it! Think for yourself most importantly, and never let others tell you what you should or shouldn't like.
I don't limit myself to only one or two genres. I enjoy something or other in just about every sub-genre of Metal, whether it be Black, Doom, Death, Thrash, Power, NWOBHM, Progressive, or many of the other numerous sub-classifications that often appear and disappear.
I also enjoy many of the great Classical composers who were truly the precursor of the Metal mind all those centuries ago! Ambient and Darkwave also have their place. I also enjoy some 80s Pop music. I absolutely do not like Rap, so don't even try to get me to listen to it!
What would life be without Fantasy and Sci-Fi themed subjects, anything dealing with Horror, World History, Astronomy and Cosmology, Philosophy, Poetry, Ancient Legends & Unsolved Mysteries of the past and present, World War II has always interested me for many years and as a hobby I tend to collect various WWII related artifacts, Obsessive Compulsive Order (OCD), BMX/Freestyle (1980's), Animals of all kinds, and a million other varied interests which may or may not be listed here in the future.
| | Music | I do the occasionally updated official website for the Doom Metal band As The Sea Parts
And an unofficial fansite of Devil Doll which over the years has introduced many new listeners and fans from all over the world, I'm proud to say.
| | Movies | A few of my favorites: The original unaltered Star Wars trilogy, Lars von Trier's Riget (The Kingdom), Excalibur, Hellraiser and Hellbound, Donnie Darko, The Warriors, The Stoned Age, Dazed and Confused, The Goonies, Friday the 13th saga, Halloween saga, Nightmare on Elm Street saga, Evil Dead trilogy, Phantasm saga, Full Moon films (Puppet Master, Subspecies, Demonic Toys, Trancers), Indiana Jones trilogy, Back to the Future trilogy, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Naked Gun trilogy, The Godfather trilogy, National Lampoon's Vacation, Flash Gordon, Conan the Barbarian, Conan the Destroyer, Krull, The Alien(s) saga, Star Trek films, David Lynch films, Dario Argento films, Lucio Fulci films, George Romero films, Westerns, WWII epics...and Troll 2, the best worst movie ever made!
Anything with at least some form of imagination and originality will generally get my praise. I do enjoy many indie, low-budget, "B" movies, and foreign films. Quite frankly, Hollywood is literally packed full of boring trends (crappy remakes) and devoid of many truly original ideas these days.
Like music, I am a serious movie lover. Between my DVD, VHS, and Laserdiscs, I have amassed several thousand titles over the years.
My DVD Profiler Collection

| | Television | Dallas, The X-Files, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Battlestar Galactica (old), Married with Children, The Dukes of Hazzard, Saved by the Bell, Little House on the Prairie, Knight Rider, Tales from the Darkside, Amazing Stories, The Twilight Zone, The Ray Bradbury Theater, Dr. Who, Absolutely Fabulous, Tales from the Crypt, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Thundarr the Barbarian, Transformers, Voltron, The Smurfs, Unsolved Mysteries, Ripley's Believe It or Not!
| | Books | I've been a loyal reader of books since around the time I first learned to read, you can never quite absorb enough information! I generally read Fantasy, Horror and Sci-Fi themed books as far as fiction is concerned. I am always on the lookout for works of fiction from Clive Barker and Stephen King.
I would highly recommend this Fantasy series of books: The Last Rune
As for non-fiction, I generally read a plethora of everything whether it be History, Mythology, Science, Philosophy, Art, and other Weirdness. I particularly love to read about Astronomy and Physics. I always excelled in science back in school and a love of it comes naturally to me.
| | Heroes | Billy The Kid. He had the balls and the will to fight back against the corrupt authorities of his era with every method in his disposal, to ultimately achieve his goal of revenge and justice. To many he was but a common criminal of the old west, but that is hardly the whole story. He lived by the gun, and he died by the gun.
Billy The Kid Biography
And what about Tony Iommi? In my humble opinion he is the Metal God absolute. Where would Heavy Metal be today without this great man?
