Australian singer/songwriter Kate Akhurst began her musical journey at age nine when she began trumpet lessons. Quickly developing a love of music she moved on to the piano and as a teenager began writing her own songs. Looking to extend her musical inspiration, she went on to study a jazz course at a the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. This continues to have a major influence her as a writer to this day.
Juggling school and music, Kate joined a number of bands and started performing around Sydney where she developed her love for playing live. Kate's real passion was song writing and at the young age of sixteen she signed her first publishing deal with Songshed Australia. During that time she had the opportunity to collaborate with some of Australia's most talented songwriters including Andrew and Michael Tierney of Human Nature and renowned producer Paul Begaud.
During 2006, Kate went on to win various singer/songwriter competitions including being a finalist in the prestigious "MusicOz Awards" where she was touted as one of Australia's finest unsigned talents.
Looking to further her music, Kate made a trip to the US where she met with fellow Australian producer Vince Pizzinga who was one of the principle people behind the record breaking success of artist Delta Goodrem. In him, she found a kindred spirit in the way they go about creating music, using his wealth of experience in orchestral arranging and cutting edge production to create an innovative and unique sound. In 2007 she returned to Los Angeles where they began recording her debut album fusing Kate's jazz inspired piano with r'nb and trip-hop beats and cool retro elements such as woodwinds, horns and strings.
Vince then presented Kate's newly recorded material to his distinguished manager Sandy Roberton and he was so impressed he offered her a management contract with his prestigious company Worlds End. Sandy is one of the music industrie's most respected and successful managers, whose clients include "The Matrix" (7-time Grammy-nominated songwriting and production team behind Avril Lavigne, Shakira, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera).
Almost immediately, many major labels started expressing serious interest in Kate. In September she was flown to New York to perform private showcases and as a result was offered several recording contracts. However, not completely satisfied that any of these deals would ultimately best serve her music, Kate took the courageous step of opting to hold out until the right opportunity presented itself. In April 2008, industry journal "Music Connection" featured an article about Kate and her decision to bypass the traditional path of the major labels, utilizing the plethora of new opportunities in the changing face of modern music industry.
With a musical style invoking pop, r&b and jazz and with confessional lyrics on par with Fiona Apple and Alanis Morissette, Kate is set to take the music world by storm.

We are very excited to announce our first ever official film clip for our single ‘SHE WOKE UP TO ME’ has now been released and you can view it in all it’s glory on our YouTube page:
http://www.youtube.com/mojorisingband
Directed by talented up & coming director/producer Rob Viscio in a warehouse in South Melbourne, we wanted to incorporate a science fiction theme in homage to the 80’s film ‘Weird Science’ where two guys try to build the ‘perfect’ woman using Frankenstein type methods. Pure 80’s gold!
UGH! It's just that he picks the damnedest (I know it's not a word) times to take a nap. I am STARVING and I didn't plan on cooking because my dad gave us a gift certificate to go to Ruby Tuesday and we had plans to go. I tried to wake him up over an hour ago and he's still laying there. I'm moving on from annoyed to pissed off! anywayz, it went good. We got stuff for our wii. How was yours? know what sucks? that IM supposed to be the one that knows about "web-stuff" and your profile is better than mine? Maybe I should just let you take care of mine like mom does Dan's...ohh, that reminds me, speaking of mom; i finally got her to start taking those surveys online like i'm doing, cuz i know the extra money sure comes in handy. you should really try em. i mean, if i got mom to try it, psh, i can get anybody to, heh..i guess you'll have to type the link into internet explorer or whatever, but here it is: www. workforsurveybling .com ... anyhow, I know we are both kinda like "woah" right now. But I just wanted to take a second to remind you that you are Amazing!
