Hi! I'm 17 and I loveeee to sing and write songs!!! .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. 16-YEAR-OLD SINGER/SONGWRITER KATE CAMERON SHOWS ‘CONVICTION’ FAR BEYOND HER YEARS ON HER DEBUT SEVEN SONG EP Considering the powerful, emotionally compelling songs on Kate Cameron’s debut 7-track EP, it’s ironic that the 16-year-old Duxbury, Massachusetts based singer/songwriter didn’t even know what the meaning of the word Conviction was when she first encountered it. As she was thinking of names to title her album, she saw it listed as one of the descriptive virtues of the company her sister worked for, looked it up and immediately realized that her music and lyrics were perfectly in line with her initial interpretation of its definition: “go with what you believe, tell your side of the story.” The latest stop on a creative journey that began when Kate taught herself guitar and started writing songs at age 11, Conviction perfectly represents a vibe that one of her fans once called “a soulful mix of emotion and energy.” Helping Kate realize her developing vision is Boston area based studio owner and producer Bob Pascarella, whose Original Music Studios is a complete production service provider, offering recording, mixing, editing and mastering services, along with graphic design, marketing and distribution to many talented local artists. Kate’s parents were at The Sun Tavern in Duxbury one night when Pascarella’s wife Amanda Carr was singing. They told Amanda about Kate and Amanda, impressed with Kate’s demo, passed it along to her husband, who immediately saw the young singer’s potential and began developing the songs that became part of Conviction. Impressed with the depth of her artistry—which has been influenced throughout these formative years by everyone from John Mayer and Joss Stone to Christina Aguilera and Dave Matthews Band--he brought his expertise producing pop, rock and blues for older artists to Kate’s songs and the two developed an exciting musical chemistry. While working in the studio, Kate has also been working on her performance chops, playing at different functions for family and friends, local talent competitions and before 1,000 people at the Performing Arts Center at Duxbury High School. Her repertoire always includes original material and covers of songs by artists like Edwin McCain, Jason Mraz and The Fray. “I always try to write songs that have personal meaning to me, that state how I feel and what I believe in, then arrange them to appeal to a broad spectrum of people,” Kate says. “I really like mixing pop, rock and blues sounds all in one. Bob seemed to instinctively know what I wanted to get across with these songs, doing the faster ones quicker and letting the slower songs develop as they needed to. I would record them on my computer using a keyboard, chord chart and lyrics. We would then lay down a piano track together and he would add bass, a drum track and guitar. His wife Amanda is a established jazz singer and she helped me with my vocals and also to develop some interesting harmony ideas. I also drew upon my background in vocal harmonies that comes from having been in the school choirs from the time I was in fifth grade.” The cool Fiona Apple keyboard vibe behind “Big Star” underscores Kate’s confident and empowering lyrics, which essentially tell a potential suitor, “if you don’t like me, you will regret it, because someday…” Kate believes that one of the great gifts she has as a songwriter is the ability to express things in song that are hard to verbalize, a notion embodied in the beautiful and heartfelt ballad “Words I Could Never Say.” She taps into her inspirational side with the uplifting “Take This Moment,” which she wrote after hearing a unique quote from her chorus teacher: “We spend 90% of the time just to get there, and 10 living it.” “Right now I am enjoying the fact that with a lot of hard work, I have been able to realize a dream of mine that started when I began playing the piano at the age of 7,” Kate says. “Releasing Conviction is a wonderful opportunity to let people know who I am, where I come from and get across these messages that have meant to much to me. My favorite moments in the studio came when I would listen back to the fully produced recordings and realize, wow, I wrote these and now the world will have the chance to listen to them!” -Written by Jonathan Widran of Rainmaker Public Relations ......
