One day, Kat Edmonson packed all her belongings and drove to Austin to pursue a life in music. Aware of the harsh realities of rent and bills, she took a telemarketing job during the day but submerged herself into the weird and wonderful live music scene at night.
Not three months into her move, she learned that a newly popular reality show was holding auditions in town for singers seeking a straight shot to national exposure. It only seemed reasonable to give it a try. Try she did, advancing through several auditions until she found herself in front of a panel of three judges (two of whose music she rocked out to in the 80's and one, who she was told to be afraid of). Chin up high and sporting a red rose around her neck, she performed her rendition of Peggy Lee's "Fever" and received encouraging remarks from the trio. The verdict from the typically indifferent Simon Cowell was that not only was her sound equal to that of legendary Doris Day, but that her audition performance was "100% totally authentic for the type of song you chose". After making her way to California, her performance was rated in the top 50 out of hundreds of thousands of competitors.
Disenchanted with the realities of television, she returned to Austin, eager to devote serious time to her songwriting and determined to find places where she could sing. For the last two years, Kat has held weekly residences at several of Austin's premiere clubs where she appears before sold-out crowds, and shares the stage with such stellar musicians as those previously listed. She recently collaborated with one of Austin's finest, Kevin Lovejoy, to write the new popular song currently playing on KGSR and KUT called, "Be The Change". Along with the song, they made a music video that has become a mini-phenomenon on YouTube and is in rotation at Austin's own, METelevision.
An enhanced CD containing both the single and the video is available at Waterloo Records with all of Kat's proceeds going to Capital Area Food Bank of Texas. It's hand-printed and packaged 100% recycled materials. You can also purchase the "Be The Change" single online at itunes, CD Baby, and Amazon.com. To be privy to the soulful, sweet melodies performed by this young artist, you can find her singing every Wednesday at Eddie V's in downtown Austin. Catch her monthly quintet show at Elephant Room- it's really cool.

Hi Kat! Thanks for sharing the new song and video - I like it! Funny enough, I was just talking about your music the day before you posted it. I'm somewhat between Houston and Austin these days, but hope to catch a gig soon. Cheers!
Be the change is an awesome video and song. I really like the video's imagery. And the song is catchy as well. I know this is a long shot but I might be interested in doing a dance remix of the single if you are interested. Let me know.
Kat, I absolutely love your new song and video "Be the Change." You rock! Guinevere and I have been listening to it over and over. How do I get one of your CD's? We are both so proud of you Kat, and so proud to know you. Come back and visit anytime you are in DFW. You always have a place to stay here! You are still Guinevere's idol, even more than Hannah Montana. LOL. :-) Have a great day!
