Born to a computer programmer and tax officer, it was clearly inevitable that Kate Locksley would become a folk musician. After learning to play the guitar parrot fashion aged 13 as well as to sing, she played in many bedrooms, gardens and living rooms before joining Oscar, later The Evil Sheep, a local rock covers band. As the lead singer and rhythm guitarist this musical union resulted in over six concerts for charity and three CDs (ooh).
In 2006, with the help and support of her friends and family, she came out of the closet as a folk fan and performed her first open mic session at Foxton Folk Club, Leicestershire. After a shaky start, she gave up for some time. Since then she has gone on to receive several compliments from total strangers, which one day she might actually take seriously.
Recently, someone said "have you heard of GarageBand?". They may now be regretting that.
