When country music star Rudy Gatlin (of the “Gatlin Brothers”) first heard 3-year-old Katelyn Clampett’s voice in the cereal aisle of the Safeway grocery store, he couldn’t believe his ears. “This 3 year old girl was singing in perfect harmony to the radio. I’ve never heard anything like that before.” From then on, Katelyn’s parents knew she had a gift for music. She quickly began scoring leads in elementary school theater productions and church choir, and by the time she was in high school, she had coached two a cappella groups, led “praise and worship” for both her school and church bands, played lead parts in both school and community theater, and had recorded her own demo CD. After being booked by many talent agencies for singing, acting, dancing and modeling (including Five Star Talent, home to Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network) at just 14 years of age, her parents decided that they wanted her to be “a normal kid.” She focused on her studies and theater at St. David’s School, an Episcopalian, private, college preparatory school in Raleigh, North Carolina. When her junior year of high school rolled around, Katelyn started to do some research on colleges. After auditioning live, she landed a vocal scholarship at Berklee College of Music, and was accepted into the college in Boston, Massachusetts. Katelyn made the big move to Boston to follow the dreams that were bigger than her small town could offer. There at Berklee, she made an enormous amount of connections through networking opportunities and student interactions. She single-handedly wrote the theme song to a CBS show “From Fairways to Airways” in 2006, and quickly developed her love for jingle writing. Katelyn became involved in the Berklee Student Government Association, became a member of the Dean’s List, was nominated and performed in the “Vocal Styles Concert”, and somehow still made time to socialize and maintain relationships with her fellow students. During her 2nd semester, Katelyn auditioned and landed a gig as “Belle” and “Sleeping Beauty” for Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and as the lead singer of the “Soda Pops” band at Hershey Park, located in Hershey, Pennsylvania. She decided to take the job at Hershey Park for the summer of ’07, singing Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin tunes in the hot, hot heat. She returned to Berklee in the Fall, and joined one of Boston’s best cover bands “Spike the Punch” as a lead singer, background singer and keyboardist. After performing with the “Spike the Punch” boys, and recording her newest demo CD entitled “The Sun Still Follows Me,” in the studio with Aaron Bellamy and her fabulous band, Katelyn began to experience vocal chord tension. After visiting a laryngologist, she was told that she must enroll in vocal therapy. Katelyn is currently resting up her voice, while attending Berklee for the summer and writing for “Shadow Mountain Music” publishing in Nashville. Katelyn plans to graduate in May of '09, and move to either Los Angeles or Nashville to pursue her career. Soon, Katelyn Clampett will be a name heard on everyone’s tongue, so watch out! Things much bigger than the cereal aisle are to come. ? For booking and other inquiries, please contact katelynclampettmusic@gmail.com.
