The daughter of a nurse and a biochemist- what other path could Kate Magnuson choose besides the meandering, penniless path of the singer-songwriter? A melody-maker since childhood, Kate effortlessly shapes evocative and stirring melodies that capture moods and emotions in their dynamic simplicity. In her last years of college, Kate began taking those melodies and melding them with simple chords and lyrics. She has since matured and grown, taking her strength in melody and developing a craft. She continually explores and experiments musically, keeping variation and evolution in her songwriting. Her lyrics are honest and genuine and at times, bittersweet; telling stories, creating moods, and painting emotions.
An actress at heart, in performance Kate is able to bring the audience into the story of her songs through her passion and commitment to the music. Her rich and powerful voice, accompanied by acoustic guitar, immerses her listeners in an atmosphere which suspends reality and allows the audience to momentarily fall into the world of the song.
A student for life, Kate continues to develop her skills and musicianship, as she begins to wedge herself into the Chicago music scene. Classes in guitar and songwriting at the super-cool Old Town School of Folk Music keep her occupied during the week along with recording sessions with Steve Dawson (of local Chicago band Dolly Varden) for her upcoming debut album due out early this summer. On the weekends she can often be found at cafes, sharing her songs with music lovers, coffee drinkers, and wi-fi junkies alike.
She currently lives, breathes, eats, sleeps, walks her dog and plays music in the Chicago area.

Kate - Happy Holidays!! It's been quite a while since we talked. When can I hear your new CD?? I'm working hard on mine with Steve and John Abbey. It's a lot of work but great fun. If you're around, I'm playing at Uncommon Ground (on Clark) on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 7:00p. Would love to see you. Peace to you in 2008! Amy
Dude, you do sound like your from the city! It's horrible. I never noticed that before. But if it makes you feel better, you don't always sound like that, at least not that I've noticed.
Hi Kate! Thanks for being my friend on here. Great band tracks on here. So, yeah, I'm the son of a nurse & a doctor. Anyway, I'm sure to see you around the city in the near future, perhaps at Uncommon again? Take care,
Ryan
