Pretty much everything you hear was my producer, Jay Pinto. I played some piano and sang most bgv's (Jay the rest), had a couple of guest guitarists (Stephen Fletcher on 2 tunes, Bryan Rust on one), but Jay played or programmed everything else. I play piano when I play live, it's more unplugged but people seem to love it!

People tell me I remind them of Vonda Shepard, Sarah MacLachlan, "Shawn Colvin with a piano," Over the Rhine's Karin Bergquist, Sheryl Crow and Joni Mitchell (not sure why Joni, I don't think I sound a thing like her, but I get that comment on my live shows occasionally.)
I have sent them all checks.
One of my fav songs (that I wrote):
I ONLY KNOW
I am looking for my life on the horizon
While I march around the walls of Jericho
I am searching for my soul within the garden
Finding long-forgotten treasures as I go
I am burning every bridge that I cross over
I am writing every chapter with my blood
Rearranging time and fate within the matrix
I’m assembling the ark before the flood
I won’t forget where I have been
But I won’t walk that road again
I only know where I must go
I only know
Like a baseball diamond hidden in the cornfield
If I plant a garden will the harvest come?
Will my doubting heart become a true believer
When I dream I am the person I become
I am following my future to the red shore
I am holding out my rod before the sea
If God makes a way for losers and for dreamers
He will surely take care of a fool like me
I won’t forget where I have been…
Never thought that I would watch for signs and wonders
I’m looking to the sky and listening for the thunder
I am gath’ring two by two under a blue sky
I look crazy to my neighbors and my friends
When the storms refuse to leave come it won't be easy
But I know that I will see the sun again
Hey there! You may know me by my old name (aka Kathy Pritchard), but I am Kate Phillips now. I have been involved in the Seattle music scene for many years as a singer-songwriter, also as a former promoter and venue owner (of the original Madison's Cafe and Music House).
My first "official" cd, Transformation, was released in 2008. Right now Bryan Rust and I are working on a mostly-live cd of new and old favorites and most-requested songs (due out Fall '09). It is titled "Live Girl: Bare Naked Songs."
Bryan and I are playing regularly in the Seattle area these days. You can check the calendar or message me your email and you'll receive concert announcements. (I'm more reliable with the emails than MySpace.)
In the past, I have played with or opened for musicians such as Buddy and Julie Miller, Bill Mallonee (The Vigilantes of Love), Jonathan Kingham, and Peter Himmelman (a spur of the moment invitation). As a promoter I have worked with Shawn Colvin, Sam Phillips, The Indigo Girls, Sixpence None the Richer, The Call, and Mark Heard.
I play at festivals, fundraisers, colleges, and churches. I'm currently booking for house concerts, "New Thought" services or concerts, and I also love to play for workshops - inspirational/motivational, personal development and/or business related.
My songs have been featured in documentaries, workshops, arial performances, and sung by a "Goddess Choir." I wrote "Sisters" for the goddess choir, and I Am was inspired by my magical retreat last August in Hawaii. Enjoy, and thanks for stopping by!
What people are saying about "Transformation":
"Your CD makes me laugh, cry and soar. I am SOOOOO excited about the songs."
-Ren Sauceda, artist, writer
"It's amazing!" John Drury, -artist, author, workshop facilitator
"Your music moves me." -Karen Heffernan, family coach, writer.
"I have to say I was blown away by it, from the gorgeous cover to the songs inside."
- Jill Hendrickson, author and writing instructor.
Kate, we love Seattle! What a spiritual place to be...so beautiful. We'll be in Sedona Arizona over the next two weeks, on retreat, kissing the red rocks and writing music. Blessings in all you do and aspire to be, my friend.
Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations!.... I'm excited for you! That will be great! I would love to see that interview! You are so good at sharing knowledge/wisdom.
Hey Kate, Thanks for contacting me. Yeah I haven't forgotten. I did check out a lot of your tunes on that broadjam site too...good stuff!! Maybe I'll run into you "out there". I haven't been playing much out lately but plan to soon.
Yeah I also changed our plans for Christmas, we were going to go to my in laws up in Maple Valley but we ended up doing that on the Sat after Christmas....and we stayed home here with our 3 kids at home and we had dinner, we also visited with my mom/step dad that day, and went to my dad/step mom's on Sun after church for brunch. So do you have any kids Kate? I can my younger daughter either Katey/Kate because there are so many Katelynn's around here in Kelso/Longview area..lol she had 3 in her LA class last year, so she had the teacher call her Kate. So how's things for you going?
Yes. I sent you a birthday something on FB. I don't spend much time on it. I am usually on Myspace because my son is on it and I like to stay tuned in to what is going on with him. I work for Portland General Electric, and have for 20 years. My official position is Construction Coordinator but I am currently on a special project building an online training website for our work group. We are using SharePoint (microsoft product) as a base for the training site. I have been fortunate at PGE because they have allowed me to infuse my daily work with creative endeavors. My assigned position is a technical order taker basically. I speak to customers, builders, electricians and developers about their new and existing electrical services from small residential to commercial applications including new residential developments. I have been doing that job for 11 years. Before that I worked on the crews helping to install new services, poles, etc. Well, that is probably more than you want to know but there it is. I do have my own website but it is more for personal use now. I no longer have a valid business license since I moved back home to Longview. Thanks for staying in touch. Have a great weekend!
