HERE'S WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT KATHLEEN'S MUSIC
------- "Musical purity rarely found these days,” says Skott Freedman, reviewer for Indie-Music.Com. He writes, “There’s a purity in singer-songwriter Kathleen Dunbar’s voice rarely found these days . . . Reminiscent of Joni Mitchell’s early work, Dunbar’s Finally Home is a beautiful collection of 17 songs woven within the genres of folk, jazz, celtic, and country. . . You can tell she’s not just singing words here, she’s sharing a spiritual experience. That’s one of the reasons this album is so enjoyable, nothing’s put on here for show; it’s all believable. . . Dunbar’s debut album is to be applauded for its originality, cohesiveness, and polished musicianship. If this album were a book, I'd read it again and again from start to finish, each 8 Full review at www.indie-music.com
------- Kris Larsen, reviewer for OnlineRock writes, "Kathleen Dunbar sings in a staccato falsetto that eerily recalls Joni Mitchell’s best work. Her voice is high, sweet and thin like a reed instrument, subsuming the sharper edges of words into a breathy trill. But unlike Mitchell, Dunbar doesn’t just stick to folk music on her new album, Finally Home. Her outstanding accompanists play all kinds of instruments: guitar, mandola, banjo, fiddle, Irish whistle, trombone. One track even features a theramin. Using their fierce and apparently endless instrumental talents as a backdrop, Dunbar travels from lilting Celtic-inspired tunes, to New Age-ish wailings, to chatty folk songs. . . . This is a great album by a talented musician who, like the heroine in 'Red Boots,' is going places fast." May 2008 Full review at www.onlinerock.com
------- Russell David, from his http://www.simplemuzik.net/ podcast show, plays Kathleen's music (check out episode 130) and says, "The core of tonight's podcast is some absolutely beautiful music by local singer/songwriter Kathleen Dunbar. The songs are taken from her cd "Finally Home."
------- Bruno Depeyper reviews the CD in Dutch in the Belgian e-Zine “Mass Musikas.” English translation: “This singing bird from SF/CA was obviously destined to become a singer. . . Together with producer and string magician Gawain Mathews she weaves all kinds of instruments and effects into her songs. . . Highlights are the wonderful country flavored ‘Red Boots’, the delicious blues of ‘Drybone Ground’, and her wonderful voice also stands out in ‘Sweet Rain’, ‘I Send Out My Love’ and ‘Rainman’s Daughter’. . . We will definitely hear more from her!” Jul 2008
------- “Kathleen is a bit of a conjurer when she sings – she's got some rich characters walking around in her brain and when she sings out they come and I don't usually get into the hocus pocus, but it’s kind of a magical thing. She's got such a beautiful voice and she's got a bit of the vibrato and she's equally adept whether she's singing a cappella or with her band.” – JJ Schultz, MC, Hotel Utah Open Mic.

ABOUT KATHLEEN
Kathleen Dunbar is a San Francisco singer-songwriter. This is Kathleen’s debut album! The Gods of Music decided to have some fun one day, so they threw some Tom Waits, Jack Kerouac, Shelley and a little Gogol into a clay pot and set it bubblin’ away. From those mystical melodic vapors they conjured up a tall, lithesome muse named Kathleen Dunbar. Known to audiences at the old Hotel Utah in San Francisco since 2003, as a child she started talking and composing poetry almost simultaneously. She would put on concerts in the attic of her house. Singing into the innards of an old coffee pot – a microphone, you see – she cooed songs like “Whisky, gin and wine, lost that gal of mine” to old 38s played on an ancient record player. The beginnings of a great songstress had laid their first seeds.
Years later, while still continuing to write poetry, she went on a walkabout through the Death Valley desert beseeching the spirits to help her “find her voice.” Her hope had been to find inspiration for a novel, instead the aforementioned Gods sent her two songs which she immediately sang and wrote down. They are on her new CD, Finally Home. Out of her special alchemy of melody, wordsmithing, early years of musicianship playing the flute and on her special mission as a mystical storyteller, she went in search of the just-the-right person to help her with the CD and lo and behold, found . . .
. . . Gawain Mathews, the celestial, magical being who helped her give birth to her CD. On this CD he’s the arranger, producer and plays guitar, mandola and banjo (as well as beat-boxing on Klondike Joe!) Gawain hails from the wilds of Wales and the hot deserts of Utah (he prefers clouds to sun). He brings multiple skills as producer and arranger and years of musicianship in a wide range of styles. He was raised on folk music, played guitar with the Utah Symphony, played bluegrass all over Utah and Colorado, has toured in the US, Australia and Europe with a variety of folks including Ben Lee, and gets into pop, rock and country grooves with a variety of folks. Currently he’s a music producer in the San Francisco Bay area. His talents include producing Victoria George’s 2006 self-titled album. Some of the artists and friends he’s recorded and played with are: James Harries, Tony Furtado, Ben Lee, Luce, Matt Flinner, Tony Lindsay, Brad Wolfe, Legato.
The Studio Crew There’s a talented crew of folks playing fiddle, bass, Irish whistle, percussion and trombone – and even drumming on antique Griswold frying pans! Dive into the liner notes to see who’s playin’ what!

I got back to Los Angeles the earlier this week after putting 4000 miles on my jeep driving around the southwest. I woke up in the morning to find that my new album had finally become available on Amazon.com. While some of these songs were written as much as 4 years ago, some in hawaii right after cambodia, mexico, california since then, they still capture who I am and how I feel, the fluctuation between my failures and my ideals, growth and the serene moments I live for and between the desire to live in the mountains and the importance of being engaged in the world. I hope that you'll listen and enjoy. You can check out most of the songs for free streaming from www.reverbnation.com/tullymackaytisbert. The album is called 'Anitya.' It is acoustic folk rock with some traditional east asian influences.
