Jazz/Blues with world beat and celtic vocal stylistic influences
Kathleen Kruze, singer, songwriter, guitarist, is a freelance artist who has been writing and performing her original songs for more than 15 years. As an avid musician, she works in a variety of settings, most recently appearing as Special Guest Vocalist for the NVCC Big Band in Waterbury, CT, singing two of her original compositions arranged for that setting. She has also joined the Chris Dabbo Jazz trio as Featured Vocalist (Summer, 2008), adding her vocal color to the Trio, interpreting a wide range of Jazz Standards and Popular songs in a Jazz style including songs by Hoagy Carmichael (The Nearness of You), Irving Berlin (Cheek to Cheek), Antonio Carlos Jobim (The Girl from Ipanema), The Beatles (Blackbird), Sting (Fields of Gold), and Eva Cassidy.
Kruze has made charitable work part of her life's mission as a compassionate artist, organizing numerous benefits over the past 18 years. She has worked with world class talent throughout her career and continues to collaborate with many of these artists to date.
Kathleen Kruze holds a degree in Classical Guitar from the Westchester Conservatory of Music in New York, where she graduated Magna cum Laud with a B.S. Major in Music Performance. In college, her area of expertise was in the music of the Renaissance period. Today, Ms Kruze is a prolific composer, having written over 150 original works in a variety of musical genres, including Folk, Blues, Traditional fingerstyle, Jazz and Classical. She is able to draw on all of these influences and weave them into her own unique playing style. Ms. Kruze is a dynamic performer and recording artist, having maintained an active music career over the past twenty years. She has recorded three CD’s to date, which feature collaborations with internationally known talent such as Blue Note recording artist, Ali Ryerson, pianist Nick Bariluk, and Cellist/Bassist Jordan Jancz. Ms. Kruze has been a featured artist at numerous venues throughout the Northeast, such as The Towne Crier in Pawling, NY. Her compositions have been aired on many radio stations throughout tri-state area.
At the present time, she is employed at the Kent School in Kent, CT, as Guitar and Music Composition Instructor.
Additionally, Kathleen has recently formed The Berkshire Ayre Duo with flutist Deborah Cardenas, comprised of two classically trained musicians who recreate the music of the Renaissance and allow it come to life once again for you. In 2006, Cárdenas and Kruze drew on their shared musical interest of the Renaissance period to form this unique duo. As a new entity, they interpret the Masters of that time period with a flair all their own. Currently, they are in the studio recording their first full-length CD, which they look forward to releasing later this year. Their demo has gotten rave reviews by a reputable "A and R" group, and has been accepted by a well-known Music Library for future use in the media. The Duo hopes to share their passion for this music with their audiences, as they captivate them with playing of the utmost beauty and grace.
