Classically trained harpist Kathryn Andrews fears no challenge on her instrument. Whether it be the operas of Giacomo Puccini or a chamber work by Magnus Lindberg, Kathryn's technique and proficiency make her one of the most desirable freelance harpists in New York City. She is a member of the Chelsea Symphony and was a Featured Solo Artist for their 2008-2009 season. Kathryn has performed with the Queens Symphony, AAC Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra of New Jersey, New Sussex Symphony, New Amsterdam Symphony and DaCapo Opera. This summer she received the Instrumental Performance Award for her excellence in interpretation of the bel canto style in Florence, Italy; winning a performance in Los Angelos in May 2010. An avid promoter of new music, Kathryn performs regularly with Tactus and the Manhattan School of Music Contemporary Program. This year she premiered chamber and solo works by Robert Sirota, Rafael Fusco and Paul Smith. She premiered Terry Champlin's "The Guitar Dreams"-- a double concerto for guitar and harp at Vassar College and recently premiered Mark Stambaugh's "Dumuzi Mourns" for flute, harp and soprano in Wiell Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. She recorded, "Zin, Zin, Zin" with Marvin Hamlisch and Wycliff Gordon in a classical/jazz collaboration for children. Kathryn has toured with American Idol pop star Clay Aiken and with Irish tenor Frank Patterson in his "God Bless America Spectacular" which aired on PBS. Kathryn has a Master's Degree from the Manhattan School of Music in Orchestral Performance and a Master's Degree from the Mannes College of Music in Classical Harp. Kathryn's harp studio is located on the Upper West Side where she teaches students of all levels on both lever and pedal harps. She is currently a subsitute teacher at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College.
