Just me and my guitar, Baby. A 2002 Taylor 414CE. It's an awesome instrument!
Influences
Wow. Where do I start? All bluegrass legends to begin with. All banjo pickers from Scruggs to Fleck. Doc Watson, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, etc. for fingerstyle picking. Then vocalists Janis Joplin, Etta James, Irma Thomas, Bonnie Raitt in the non bluegrass genres. Norah Jones is one of my favorites. Alison Krauss, Claire Lynch, Rhonda Vincent, etc. as long as it's good, I listen to it and am influenced by it. However;my biggest influence was and is my father. He was my hero.
Well, basically what you see is what you get. I am a simple down to earth person who likes to have a good time and hang out with my friends. I started playing music when I was 6. My father was a south La bluegrass fiddle player, Buck Wood. He was the best in La. I recently lost him in April. I miss him so very much. He taught me how to play the guitar, but I wanted to learn the banjo. He told me the banjo was not an instrument for girls, but I learned to pick a little on it. Most kids when I was growing up was into the new rock music and such, but not me, I loved bluegrass. It was and still is my passion. Other kids were going to see rock bands, but I was going to see the Osborne Brothers and Bill Monroe. Then my dad took me to see Chet Atkins and that's when I fell in love with fingerpicking. I was 12. I've playing the banjo and guitar ever since. I mainly concentrate on original material derrived from life experiences. All of my songs tell a story that I have lived through. Some of them were tough, but it only made me the person that I am. I have 3 wonderful kids and 4 beautiful grandbabies. When I win my Grammy, it will all be thanks to my ex's. They put me through hell, but I wrote the songs well. (lol) My dream is to one day get mail box money and be able to pick all the time. Keep picking and set your goals high. Remember practice makes perfect. Music is infinite, no matter how much you know, there is always more to learn. Kat
Yes you do sweetheart! I do apologize that my house back in Missouri was such a mess! But, that's just me. Even though it is cluttered, I keep my place very clean.
