kATIA SALEMI participated at an italian singing competition for children at the age of 5. At age 10 she started her musical education and a year later she began to play the piano as well. During her education she met some guys and formed her first band. A few years later she was asked in a well-known Dutch all-round band as their leadsinger. She started to focus herself on her voice. She took singing lessons at a rock academy "De Til" in Antwerp, Belgium. Her teacher got her in touch with the Belgian Triphop band "Suburban Prejudice" and immediately "CNR Arcade The Netherlands" offered them a record deal. They recorded and mixed their full CD in some of the best studio's in Belgium and The Netherlands (Arnold Muhren, Volendam / Galaxy, Mol), worked with the famous producer in the triphop/dance business: Hans Weekhout (Peplab, Capricorn), had a tour in Europe, a lot of airplay and their own video on TMF. Although the product had a lot of potential, the promotion cried off and so they decided to split.
She knew she wanted to write her own stuff. So she started a collaboration with Rene Ubachs (www.are-u-recordings.com). In 1998 their remarkable project NEW TONGUE was born. Although they were not focused on playing their stuff live, they recorded their own music at Rene's Studio.
During the summer of 1999 Katia meets Arabesque's guitar-player joOp WOLTERS (www.joopwolters.com). Because of their friendship and wide interest in music, Joop asks Katia to join Arabesque (www.arabesque-site.com). Lion Music (www.lionmusic.com) then decided to give them a record deal. Their full album ..The Union' was released worldwide. At the moment they're working at their second album.
Katia has been taking classical, rock and jazz singing lessons. Yet as time passed by she realized that all she ever wanted was entering the infinite space of the harmony. So she decided to study Music again. She studied Jazz at the conservatoire in Maastricht and graduated in 2006 .
Besides Arabesque and New Tongue, she sings in Hollands funkiest band MO & THE FAMILY TEA (www.bahama.nl/motea) and in the a capella band Something Blue. Check out their tunes! She's also active with her jazz combo "Strawberry Jam". At this very moment she is working on a new project, called:

In the meantime Katia has a lot of live giggs with different projects and bands, does studio work for different artists (like p.e. the Autralian band 'Hot Rubber Glove', singer/songwriter Jos Netto @ www.nettovibes.com, the Italian artist Chris Catena @ www.chriscatena.com and many more). She also started to teach at a private music school.
More than ever Katia is busy working her way into the big scene. So everybody, stay tuned!

hier Appie Weijers van Ap-Art Events. Hoe is het met jou? Lang niet meer gehoord/gezien! Je hebt een prachtige myspace en ik ga er binnekort eens rustig naar kijken. Treedt je veel op in Maastricht e.o.? Ik zou je graag nog eens zien zingen! 29 maart treedt The Funktransplant op in Eupen. Op het Remmedemmi Festival. Misschien een leuke gelegenheid elkaar eens te zien!? Ik werk ook dit jaar weer mee aan de programmering van de Jazz Maastricht Promenade. Dat vindt plaats van 9 t/m 12 oktober. Laat me weten of je in dat weekend beschikbaar bent voor een eventueel optreden. We moeten eens praten over de mogelijkheden, okay? Maar ik vind je opnames op myspace super en ben benieuwd naar wat je doet ! Paasmaandag organiseert Ap-ARt Events een old school hip hop, funk en soulparty in Bozzini. Ik denk dat Maurice, Yvette, Luc & Co er ook wel zullen zijn. Vorige x in Bozzini speelde The Funktransplant het voorprogramma van The Original Sugarhill Gang. En ze zijn terug nu met Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Melle Mel en DJ Grand Wizard Theodore. Paasmaandag, 24 maart, vanaf 20 uur. DJ BlueTone (John Kampstra) draait muziek, samen met DJ Boogieman. Wordt echt een bijzonder avond. Zou leuk zijn als je komt en/of eventueel geinteresseerden deze avond kunt aanbevelen!
