Who I'd like to meet:
Actually, here's what I really want:
1) Young, dangerously pretty writer boy with sky-high cheekbones and brooding personality - brilliant, broken and a crazy nymphomaniac. Loves to hide in the corners of coffee shops and poetry readings, scribbling in a moleskein notebook.
2) Flashy, flambouyant, over-the-top queer Queen Of All Queens who likes to dance to Madonna's Immaculate Collection. The gay boy that will teach me how to effectively apply MAC make-up and how to walk in six-inch stilletos because (s)he has better legs than me.
3) Corporate high-roller who went to Yale and moved to Charlotte to be a Banking Executive. Has a trust fund and way too much money to spend on making me happy with baby blue Tiffany's boxes and platinum and expensive dinners at French restaurants. He drives his BMW with the top down, but he's really not trying to compensate for anything.
4) Outspoken, intelligent, strong-willed, this-is-my-soapbox-and-you-will-listen-to-me dyke. She'll teach me about buddhism and animal rights and socialist liberalism. She's the lesbian who is so beautiful all the boys want her, and I get to revel in the irony that she would rather be in bed with me than with them.
5) Singer-songwriter with a deep gravelly voice and a bluesy guitar. When you ask him what his day job is, he says, "Day job? This is my PASSION, dude." He'll write love songs and serenade me by moonlight and teach me how to surf on the NC Outer Banks.
6) Computer dork who talks and dreams in code and can make pretty web pages for me to write on. He gets me hooked on World of Warcraft or EQ and we have our entire relationship in virtual reality. He'll worship the ground I walk on and send me daily emails with blinking .gif flowers.
7) Employed at Charlotte Mecklenberg Fire Department, saves babies thrown out windows of 3-story ghetto apartments and kittens stuck in trees. He loves Panthers football, NHL Hockey (Go Flames!) and NCAA basketball. But he has a sensitive side. He keeps a hand-written journal, tucked between the mattresses of his bed and writes in it each night. "Dear Diary...today, I saved a grandma from a burning building..."
And if you don't fit any of those (who really does?)...I'm looking for...Moonlit walks. Riveting conversation. Fervent belief. Insight more than intelligence. Unabashed affection. A little self-deprecation. A lot of self-love. Or really just somebody who'll listen to me ramble about books and writing, and go with me for the occassional cup of coffee or indie rock show. Or just someone kinda interesting.
Boys...Girls...Fun freaks...Self-Proclaimed Dorks...The Unusual.
