When eight-year-old Katie Chance imagined she has an angel in her pocket she told her dad she wanted to write a song. As she thought about angels, she saw love everywhere. "A world full of angels and love, what a wonderful place," said her dad. The song quickly became "Love In My Pocket."
Now nine years old and in the fourth grade, Katie is so excited to have recorded "Love In My Pocket," a child's interpretation of a world so filled with love that you can actually see it everywhere. “Love In My Pocket” is being released to radio stations across the country in January 2008, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Through local radio partners, listeners will have the opportunity to download "Love In My Pocket" for free or can opt to make a donation of their choice to the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center Autism Research Program (TRIAD) where Katie was diagnosed with autism at 32 months and participated in the research program for three years. When Katie is asked what she would like to be when she grows up she responds, "A speech pathologist, of course!"
Katie Chance lives in Middle Tennessee with her parents, Dean and Teresa Chance. Although Katie was diagnosed with autism at an early age, she has overcome many obstacles through her faith in God and her love for music. Her musical talents were evident very early in her life as she began to sing well before she could talk.
Chosen as a member of an all-girls national singing group, Roar into Action Kids Club, Katie recently completed recording a CD sing-a-long project that is also the soundtrack to a children’s movie, King Red. She composed three of the songs for the King Red soundtrack, which was awarded Best Original Music at the 2007 Louisiana State University Film Festival. "Covered in Love," one of the songs Katie recorded for the film’s soundtrack, features her performing a vocal duet with Mark Miller of the hit country band Sawyer Brown. “Covered In Love” is also the theme song for an upcoming national campaign for the non-profit children's organization Project Linus.
Katie was recently invited to be a special guest performer at the annual black tie event for the Autism Society of Middle Tennessee. The gala was presented by the Frist family at the Frist Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
