Katie Clarke and the Green River Band are a dynamic and fast-rising musical group presenting a mix of traditional old-time, country and bluegrass numbers peppered with distinctive more contemporary originals. The cornerstone of their sound is the combination of harmony vocals with crack mandolin work. They have been wowing audiences all over New England with their crisp and eclectic mix of American roots music at performance halls, churches, festivals, private events and clubs. Often compared to local artist Rani Arbo (daisy mayhem, Salamander Crossing) and nationally renowned singer-songwriters such as Gillian Welch and Kate Wolf, Katie's big voice has earned them a solid reputation as a crowd-pleasing group able to navigate the territories of folk, country, gospel, bluegrass and old time music without sounding derivative. Katie and her band have had the pleasure of opening for nationally and internationally known acts, and have fast become a favorite act in the Pioneer Valley. In late 2006 Katie was joined by Gail Hegeman on bass and hot mandolin player John Alphin and they are righteously proud to introduce "Wrap Me in Green," their first full-length CD of all original material, available in November 2007. Recorded at Signature Sounds Studios with top-notch engineer Mark Thayer (Tim O'Brian, Eilen Jewell, Chris Smither, Tracy Grammar, etc. ), the album reflects an old timey feeling with a distinctly contemporary edge. Find it at http://cdbaby.com/cd/kcatgrband starting the week of November 18th and for digital downloads click on the DIGSTATION symbol.
