Katie Pearl born in Luton, raised in St Albans and now resident of South London, didn’t want t be a star – she just wanted
to sing. All she has ever done is sing for her love of music. Her father Dalton was a man with a passion for music and
encouraged her to sing, but Katie was happy to be “just Katie” and that is what you get when you meet the stunning and
talented Katie Pearl – just Katie.
But when you meet “just Katie” it is more than enough to make you come to
the realisation that Katie is more than “Just Katie” – Katie Pearl is a star. She has the gift of song, the gift of song
writing and the gift of a sparkling personality that make her more than “just Katie”.
“I just make music and
to be honest everything else has fallen into place.” Says Katie and with her new solo project now on the horizon she is
looking to be the next star to come out of the UK.
Her musical roots come from the young age of 8 years old.
Finding her voice in church and singing solos to the congregation every Sunday (which she loved to do) As she grew as a
vocalist Katie would be at home and would often go through her parents enormous collection of music and find tracks by
some of the biggest stars of the time like Whitney Houston and Simply Red. With a perfect musical ear she would emulate
the songs that she heard perfectly and sing them back exactly as they were on the track, a talent and gift indeed! This
was the way she learnt her craft. Katie just loved to sing.
In 2001, at the age of 15 Katie decided to enter
the ITV competition “Stars In Your Eyes” as Kele Le Roc and with her phenomenal voice she covered Kele’s “My Love” and
came 6th overall, which then created a lot of interest from some of the major music industry managers. But in true Katie
style she wanted to be “just Katie”. She recalls; “I had letters and phone calls from lots of industry bigwigs and I
really didn’t want all that attention, so I decided to just get on with my life.” A decision she has never regretted. She
continued with school and college and knew one day she would follow her dream in her own time.
One day out of
the blue a good friend called who told Katie that a young producer was looking for a vocalist to write and work with –
this producer was DaVinche and a great working relationship was born. Over the next 2 years Katie would work with almost
the whole of the UK hip hop scene and has worked with the likes of Bashy, Kano, Asher D, Wiley, Ghetto to name a few. With
this experience she developed her song writing skills and vocal strength to new heights and has given her a well-respected
profile amongst her peers in the UK scene.
Katie took a two-year hiatus as she dealt with the loss of her
father but is coming back bigger and better than ever this time round. Recently, she recorded with Perempay’n’Dee “In The
Air” which has become one of the biggest club and radio tracks at the moment and is shaping up to become a big national
hit this year. She is following up with her own solo singles which will definitely keep you wanting to hear more, so stay
tuned for more from Katie Pearl.
