Katie Quick, a former 6th Grade Chicago Public School Teacher, incorporated music in her classroom as a way to motivate and inspire her inner-city students. The results were major improvements in test scores, attendance, and behavior. Despite all of the classroom success, her former principal, jealous and jaded, lowered her rating during end of the year teacher evaluations. When asked for an explanation, the principal took one look at her and said, “Katie, your music will NEVER pay the bills.”

Katie knew that she now had the opportunity to be a better teacher out of the classroom then she ever could have been within. She set out with her unbreakable spirit not only to prove her principal wrong, but more importantly, to show her students that ANYTHING was possible. A blessing in disguise, some say, because since leaving teaching, Katie Quick has written over 250 songs, played over 350 shows, self-released and self-produced two albums of original music recorded in Nashville, appeared numerous times on nationally broadcast radio and television, and had her story featured in national and international publications. She has sold albums worldwide and developed a fan base from New York City to Nashville, and everywhere in between. She is even building a loyal fan base overseas since the release of her 5-Star Album Review with the largest country music publication in the UK. And although music is not quite paying her bills just yet, Maverick Magazine said it best when they stated, “Katie Quick is set for success beyond her wildest dreams.”

Where It All Began...

A native Chicago Southsider (and Sox fan), her love of music began with Sunday morning broadcasts of “Breakfast with the Beatles”. She fell in love with the music of her parents’ generation and to this day is influenced by such great artists as The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, and Fleetwood Mac just to name a few. Her first appearance on stage was in 1996 in her 8th grade production of Grease, at which time she fell in love with the music of country greats, Dixie Chicks, Martina McBride, and Shania Twain. Katie continued singing from that moment on participating in the Mother McAuley High School chorus and musicals, the choir at Illinois State University, as well as several other talent shows and competitions. She realized through these experiences her dream of performing on stage. With the wonderful support of her family and friends, she was inspired her to chase her dream. In June 2006, Katie joined the Chicago-based modern country rock band, Yard Fulla Cars. This high energy band has continued to grow and gain popularity in the Chicagoland area, playing covers and many of Katie's original songs. She also performs extensively throughout Chicago as a original/acoustic act, and with her own backing band.

Katie's passion lies in her songwriting. Her love for songwriting was continually inspired and shaped by her numerous trips to Nashville, Tennessee where she has worked with some of the most talented musicians in the Music City. Her very first EP was recorded in Nashville and released in May 2008, and her full-length album, Be the Change, was released on May 1st, 2009 to a sold-out crowd in her hometown Chicago. One of Katie’s original songs, “Fingertips”, was the catalyst to her winning the US99.5 Talent Competition in 2007. A former Chicago Public School teacher, Katie wrote that song about her then 6th grade students to encourage them that no dream is too far out of reach. And that is exactly her philosophy. As broadcast by US99.5 early morning show, “Katie Quick is a name we will definitely be hearing about in the future.”
