I'm, Katie A, a singer/songwriter and Celtic harpist, trying to challenge the type of music traditionally associated with my instrument (the clarsach) and bring something more modern to it.
I've been lucky enough to "minstrel" my way through Europe, North America and China, while here at home in Scotland I've played in some beautiful castles and aboard the Royal Yacht Britannia. In October 2004, I performed at the opening of the Scottish Parliament building - a real privilege!I am now an Ambassador for the Princes' Trust, Prince Charles' charity which helps young people between 14-30 achieve their true potential: www.princes-trust.org.uk
My first tour in China in 2003 was fantastic and I was invited back in 2004 to perform in the International Baoshan Festival in Shanghai, as well as in Beijings Forbidden City Concert Hall. The reception from the Chinese people was truly overwhelming. I have now just made a Chinese CD.
Last year (2005), I played (and modelled!) at the New York Tartan Day fashion celebrations, Dressed to Kilt - it was a great way to celebrate my Scottish roots.
I've been on tv in Spain, Germany, USA, China and on the Beeb, and now here I am on MySpace. My new Celtic acoustic CD will be out by Christmas time so email me if you would like to hear a copy!
I hope you enjoy the new tracks I've put on here. If you want to hear snippets from some of my CDs, have a peek at my main website - kt-a.com - or you can read my interview at scotlandistheplace.com.
I am off to perform in Hong Kong and China from March 14th 2007 then on to Dressed to Kilt in NYC, why not come along to one of the concerts I'll be doing there!
See you!
Kx
