Katie Uva, aka Captain Cool Mcsuave, is currently a student at Boston University, frequently dodging room keys and underwear thrown by her hordes of screaming fans. She has played Arlene's Grocery, TJ Scallywaggle's (vegan pizza!), Porter Belly's, the Bowery Poetry Club, and BU Central, but mostly takes it to the streets, playing in Central Park and the Via Dei Fori Imperiali (Rome).
Her clear, nightingale-esque voice and no-nonsense approach to mature, sensitive acoustic music has made her a favorite among people, ladies, gentlemen, citizens, and folk.
Her music can best be described as introspective and folky. One fan says Katie Uva's songs "make you want to hang yourself-but in a good way." She defies categorization and is very short. But not of soul. She is long of soul.
Thanks for the add Katie. Wow! . . .you gave me a dressin' guessin' lesson on the delicatessen. Brilliant! Seriously, your stuff is great. I wrote a long ballad (~Harry Chapin style) about a young genius, sort of a mix between Jodie Foster in Contact, Good Will Hunting, and the Mayor of Candor Lied. Not on my profile. May I send in a message?
katie i can not believe you have a third album, i'm so excited! i have your first 2 and love em. could you please post dates and venues for upcoming shows?
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
