  • Bio

Born and raised near Stuttgart in Germany, at 16 Kati came across a Bob Dylan biography in the Cologne Hauptbahnhof bookstore. Dylan became the fuel for her dreams - be a musician in the US. She left Germany. Her American grandmother happened to live in Phoenix. Kati stopped by “only for a few weeks.” Her fate changed in a cold January night walking into a local Phoenix blues joint, Char’s Has The Blues. That night performing happened to be Small Paul & Beat Street. She was blown away and befriended the band. The guys took the young girl under their wing. In the nineties she landed her first gig with Duke Draper. As bassist for Midnite Blues in 1995/96 she she honed her skills with Jimmy Peyton who is one of Phoenix walking blues libraries and a must see for Blues afficianados. Since then she has played with most of Phoenix blues' “Who is Who” including Ronnie Whitehead, Midnite Blues, Chuck Hall, Scotty Spenner, Big Pete Pearson & The Blues Sevilles, George Bowman, Cold Shott & the Hurricane Horns, Hans Olson, Chico Chism, Whitehead Brothers, Rena Haus, Rocket 88's, Bob Corritorre, the late saxophonist Bob Tate, Joe Houston, baseball hall of fame Jim "Mudcat" Grant as well co-founded Roadside Attraction and the (now defunkt) legendary all girl outfit Sistah Blue. Besides being a solid bass player Kati is also a dreamer and some of her dreams have led her down paths that the once 16 year old German girl couldn't have imagined: In 2005 Stax Museum of American Soul Music's director Nashid Madyun invited her together with Sistah Blue to perform at Stax!!! · In 1998 while Kati opened up with Big Pete Pearson & The Blues Sevilles at the Celebrity Theatre for the “Boogie Man” John Lee Hooker (Bob Dylan's first professional engagement was opening for JLH at New York's Gerde's Folk City!). She befriended not only the man himself but also Bay area harmonica player Ginny Sakellar and JLH's then bassist Ron Perry (now with Susan Tedeschi) and drummer Bryant Mills. Because of these friendships she opened for JLH a second time 1999, this time with Sistah Blue. Two time performer (2001, 2005) at the International Blues Competition in Memphis, TN · Two time winner (1999, 2004 ) and three time finalist (1992, 1997, 2009) of the Arizona Blues Showdown hosted by the Phoenix Blues Society. · · · Although for most of her musical career, Kati has heavily leaned toward blues and R & B, in the 90s she had a stint with a Tempe based original pop-alternative band ClockPeople.
