KATJA GUSTAFSSON Stockholm/Berlin [VIRGO/COMBUSTION]
Electro/Nu Rave/Grime/Queer Disco/80s

Katja Gustafsson har djat i sju år och behärskar det flesta musikstilar. Fast roligast tycker hon det är att spela på riktigt stora dansgolv. Då kan man spela riktigt skön elektronisk musik som progressive house, dirty electro blandat med olika tunga beats... Ju mindre ställe desto mer spelar man låtar som alla känner igen.

Som dj är Katja Gustafsson ständigt på resande fot och spelar på klubbar runt om i Europa. Hon är resident i Stockholm, Malmö, Berlin och Fribourg i Schweiz. Som festarrangör har hon jobbat i Stockholm med queer feministiska klubben Combustion i sju år som huserat på bl a Debaser, Södra Teatern och Inkonst i malmö. Andra stora populära återkommande fester som hon dragit igång är dom stora Queer Allstars festerna som huser på bl a Debaser, Kolingsborg och Inkonst. Hon har även varit med och arrangerat ett antal feministfestivaler under årens lopp. I Berlin, Malmö, Stockholm, London, Oslo och Göteborg har hon öppnat klubben Captain Kinky Pinky som är en kollektiv queerklubb där queerkonst och musik ges i utryck blandat med olika teman man klär upp sig för kvällen. Sen några år tillbaka startade hon även det Queer feministiska bokningbolaget VIRGO för djs & artister. Tidigare har hon även spelat i Canada och Europa med den populära duon Dj Combustion.

Katja håller även i dj-workshops för tjejer sen fem år tillbaka i Stockholm, Malmö, Göteborg och festivaler runt om i Europa.

Lives and breath music… Queer Disco, Dirty electro, 80s+90s and grime... its all about electronic beats mixed with a lot of love. When she's not djing on her own (resident in berlin, malmö and fribourg-switzerland) she is traveling around Europe with the successful dj team Combustion, give dj workshops, runs a number of parties like the queerclub Combustion in Sweden, Captain Kinky Pinky in Berlin and Malmö. She's also involved in many music projects to come and runs the Queer Feminist booking agency Virgo.

So, from the begining :)
I started very young to record different sounds, trying them out, how they could sound if i did different things with them, i was a total sound nerd at the age of 6

then when i got a little bit older i wanted to become a soundengineer but when i had explored that i some how ended up doing short films and experimenting with picture... so i discovered my interest for light and objectification both still and moving... and that took me further to start to explore the graphic world..so i ended up doing that too still and motion..

i could do all those things and i was happy working with all the three elements, only problem was that i was working to much so i burned my self out twice and i couldent think about being creative professionally for about two years... during this time i starded a club togheter with helena.. and it took my mind of that side and i could be cerative again in a new way... arraging parties, we started to dj and a new world oppened up to me...

At first i thought that djs were a little bit silly but then i realised that it was so much fun to be able to play all your favorite songs and experiment with them so a new world opened up to me, and we did our own videos for the parties, our own flyers and posters, and then we got to introduce artists that we normaly play when we dj live on our stage...

so i guess i found my way back and today i feel im home...ready to explore new things that come my way...so I have been djaing since 2002 togheter with helena in dj combustion

I also give dj courses for "girls only" since 2005.
and active with the project RADICAL LOVE CREW (RLC)

This is the 3rd summer Dj Workshops for girls are held in Stockholm. You learn how to beat mix with cds, count bpm and learn how to prepare a dj-set so you can continue djing on your own. Contact me if you want to know more

I Dj As KATJA GUSTAFSSON and play really good tight dancefloor sets with DIRTY ELECTRO/PROGRESSIVE HOUSE/HIPHOP and then i can also play more mellow for bar and smaller dancefloors with 80+90's/Queer Disco and so on. I have a wide spectra with music. when i have time i also give dj workshops
