I was born on the Swedish-speaking countryside of western Finland, graduated as a pop/jazz vocalist and music educator from the renowned Sibelius-Academy in Helsinki, came to Rotterdams Conservatory in The Netherlands to specialize in Brazilian music, and now live in The Netherlands where I work as a singer, vocal coach and freelance music educator. In 2007 I studied the groundbreaking vocal method Complete Vocal Technique (CVT) developed by Danish voice researcher Cathrine Sadolin in a 1-year diploma course for professional singers, and currently I am following the 3-year course to become an Authorized CVT Teacher at Complete Vocal Institute in Copenhagen. I have worked as a singer in bands, acappella groups, music theatre productions and dance performances. With my own band, Katja Maria & Band, I play Brazilian music and jazz. I am also available for session work, background vocals and live performances. I can provide guide vocals for bands, songwriters and producers, add harmony, sing lead/backing vocals and co-write lyrics and songs. I work with a variety of styles including pop, jazz, latin, dance, electronica, French chansons, and musicals, and I sing in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Finnish, French, German and Dutch. I have excellent sight reading and ear training skills, and am capable of picking up a song or harmony very quickly. I also enjoy doing vocal arrangement and have worked as a collaborator, co-lyricist and co-writer for studio recordings.
