SUOMEA ALEMPANA...
Trombonist Katja Toivola has been acquainted with the music styles of New Orleans for over fifteen years. She made her first visit to the Crescent City in 1995, and now divides her time between her two hometowns: Helsinki and New Orleans. Toivola has played with the Riverside Rascals, a popular Finnish jazz band since 1996, and has been leading her own bands; the New Orleans Helsinki Connection and the Spirit Of New Orleans since 2001. In July 2002, Toivola performed in Switzerland with the German Wim's Paradise Jazz Band and in February 2006 in France with Patrick Bensoussan's Big Beat Band. 2006 also saw her performing at the legendary Preservation Hall. She has performed in New Zealand, Switzerland, Fiji, France, Germany, Estonia, and Norway and on most of the Finnish jazz festivals (April Jazz, Ruskaswing, Linna-Jazz, Korpo Sea Jazz, Ylläs Jazz Blues, Jyväskylä Summer Jazz, Helsinki Classic Jazz Festival, Imatra Big Band Festival...). She works as a freelance musician around Helsinki and New Orleans.

Pasunisti Katja Toivola on perehtynyt New Orleansin musiikkityyleihin yli viidentoista vuoden ajan. Ensimmäisen matkansa jazzin syntymäkaupunkiin hän teki vuonna 1995 ja jakaa nykyisin aikansa Helsingin ja New Orleansin välillä. Toivola on johtanut suosittuja New Orleans Helsinki Connection- ja Spirit Of New Orleans -yhtyeitä vuodesta 2001 lähtien. Heinäkuussa 2002 Toivola esiintyi Sveitsissä saksalaisen Wim's Paradise Jazz Bandin kanssa. Vuonna 2006 Toivola soitti Ranskassa Patrick Bensoussanin Big Beat Bandin kanssa sekä New Orleansin legendaarisessa Preservation Hallissa. Toivola on esiintynyt useilla merkittävillä festivaaleilla ja klubeilla sekä Suomessa että ulkomailla (Fiji International Jazz & Blues Festival, Waiheke Island Of Jazz, Ascona New Orleans Jazz & Classics, Sildajazz, Ruskaswing, Ylläs Jazz Blues, Kalott Jazz & Blues, Imatra Big Band Festival, Korpo Sea Jazz, Otava Happy Jazz, Helsinki Classic Jazz Festival, Linna-Jazz, Storyville, Santa Fé, Sture Jazz Club, Ekman Jazz Club...). Lisäksi Toivola on soittanut Riverside Rascals -yhtyeessä vuodesta 1996 lähtien ja esiintynyt free-lance muusikkona Helsingissä, Tallinnassa, Norjassa, Saksassa, Sveitsissä sekä New Orleansissa (mm. Wim's Paradise Jazz Band, Tricia Boutté Band, Leroy Jones Quintet, Tremé Brass Band).
