Kato is one of the few Danish deejay’s who has been able to create a big name for himself, not just within the industry but out among the Danish population. He is known for his huge engagement for the music and the club culture, which he lives for.
Kato’s statement in life is “you can achieve what you want!” The best example to prove the truth in this statement is Kato’s carrier. All of Kato’s youth was used in the dream to become ”something” within the music business, the spear time interests were swopped in favour of following the daily radio programs to be updated in news and trends within the music. In spite of a lot of bumps on the way Kato always has fought hard and well to achieve his dream. ”In periods it has been hard, but I have never lost the lust to evolve myself both personally and professional. My surroundings didn’t take my goals and dreams seriously, but this made my motivation even stronger. I do what I think is right for me, and not what others think I should do”, Kato says. Through the years this has made Kato an even more unique artist who seduces his surroundings with his fantastic, calm and down-to-earth personality and charisma both “on” and “off” stage.
The DJ:
3 Danish DeeJay Awards and 10 DeeJay nominations was more than a young Kato could dream about when he already as a twelve year old made his first experiences with the DeeJay business. His disco buddies of then, laughed in Kato’s behalf, when he proclaimed, he once wanted to be Denmarks best DeeJay. With a stubbornness and will beyond the ordinary, Kato fought his way through the following years forward from club to club, which in the year 2003 resulted in a nomination as ”Best Danish Mainstream DeeJay Of The Year” at the Danish DeeJay Awards.
Every year ever since Kato has been nominated for this particular price, and in the year 2007 Kato finally achieved his goal. This year he was awarded with 2 prices as he also won the “Danish DeeJay Battle” a title he defended in 2008. 10 nominations at the Danish DeeJay Awards make Kato the most nominated Danish deejay through time, but it is not only the awards and the glory which motivates Kato to develop as a deejay. “You are never better than your last gig, and off course there are big expectations every single weekend when I’m doing my gigs. But I love the pressure and it keeps me hungry to develop my style even more every day. I want to give the audience a new experience every time they watch my sets. For me every night is a new adventure, I do an effort to give the audience the same feeling.”
The Producer:
Music has always been a sanctuary as well as a type of expression for Kato. Already as a two year old he got his first guitar, later on a set of drums and a keyboard. Lessons in music school were cut in favour to improvisation in his room. It is still the improvisation and toying with music which are the characteristics of Kato, when he creates his music. “I learnt my notes in music school, when I was a boy, but I can’t remember the notation. When I start to produce a new track, it is based on the feeling in my stomach, which quivers in my body, when I’m in the studio and does the first chords; from there I never know where it takes me”.
Kato’s musical talent has been awarded with 3 nominations at the Danish DeeJay Awards, but it is not only the respect from the business around Kato which gives him the drive to create music. “Of course it makes me proud and happy, when deejay’s and radio stations are playing my tracks, but it is the reactions from the crowd which makes me high. When I play a new track, sometime only a half-done production, and the crowd likes it, it gives me a special feeling inside. The reactions from the crowd gives me the inspiration, to finish the tracks.
