Where do I start. The first tape, yes, tape (CDs weren't widespread then...) I bought was Tiffany, the teen sensation. However, the first real music I craved was Miles Davis, Kind of Blue. I listened to it for hours. Soon after that it was Bill Evans, then Coltrane, Annie Ross, Ella, Billie, Shirley Horn, followed by as many great Jazz artists you can think of. Next came all the singer-songwriters that I'd been listening to all my life, but only then knew by name: Joni Mitchell, David Crosby, Carole King, James Taylor, Irving Berlin, Sheryl Crow, Dolly Parton, John Mayer, Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, Jen Chapin, Mike Errico, and of course my husband. I guess Aaron Copland and John Cage as well as all of the amazing musicians I've had the happy opportunity to work with, know, and become friends with: Anat Fort, Nick Mancini, Johnny Rodgers, Peter Eldridge, The New York Voices, Alyssa Castro, Jane Monheit, my dad, Sean Nowell, Augie Hass, Troy Roberts, Andrew Fisher, Ayellette Rose, Ken Schaphorst, Rey Sanchez, and so many more I would just run out of room if I kept going. | | Sounds Like | Joni Mitchell meets Sheryl Crow and jammed with Cassandra Wilson. | | Type of Label | Major |
