KATY LIED . . . KATIE ARRIVED!!!
Can it really be almost a year since the unforgettable hook and insistent jangle of Katy Lied's debut single "Late Arrival" became a feature of the BBC Radio 2 airwaves, propelling the album of the same name to national attention and garnering across the board praise from audiences and critics alike?
Well yes it can, and a pretty eventful year at that. The band have been working on the premise that a change is (at least) as good as a rest, and the last twelve months for Katy Lied have been full of change and very little rest . . .
The biggest change has been the addition of London based lead vocalist Katie Harnett to the band's line-up. She replaced singer/guitarist Dan Britton, who has left to concentrate on solo projects. Katie joins chief songwriter/guitarist Duncan Hamilton, bassist Ian Thomson and drummer Paul Burgess and has brought her immense vocal talent to the band's second album which is near completion and due for a late summer release.
"Katie has been an amazing find for the band" confirmed Hamilton, "as soon as we heard her voice we knew we had to work with her". And yes, the name was a coincidence - but a happy one!
The second Katy Lied album is titled "Echo Games" and full track listing details will be released soon. It is again produced by Nigel Stonier, and features material written by Duncan Hamilton both alone and in collaboration with ex-Storys guitarist Dai Smith, famed singer-songwriter Thea Gilmore and also Stonier himself. Legendary Nashville based pedal steel player Al Perkins continues his relationship with the band by making guest appearances on two tracks.
The Katy Lied signature sound - roots and rock, slide and jangle, classic songwriting values - is present again, though this time around Duncan promises that the band have diversified and that the songwriting has also crossed over into new territories.
Katy Lied will be appearing at selected gigs throughout the UK this summer, and will be off on a full British tour later in the year. Also look out for more details to be released soon of live radio appearances to coincide with the album's release.
Katy Lied's arrival may have been a 'late' one but watch this space, they are about to start arriving all over again . . .
