Music, if it's melodic; gardening - I love to grow things; photography; reading; computer graphics - actually, anything computer related.
Music
It's baseball season again, so my thoughts (as always) turn to this ditty from the late great Steve Goodman: "A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request". Steve died in 1984, just a few weeks before The Cubs won the Eastern Division (when there were only East & West, no Central yet). Of course, after winning the first 2 of the best of 5 series, they imploded & lost the next 3 to San Diego. So, what else is new for a Cubs Fan? :P
Chicago; Steely Dan; Genesis (all eras); Fleetwood Mac (all eras); Doobie Bros. (prefer the Tom Johnston eras); Lani Hall; Ella; Dave Brubeck; almost anything piano (REAL piano), esp. Chopin & Liszt; Debussy & Ravel; prefer Mozart to Beethoven - the former is mathmatically precise while the latter is sometimes overwrought (although not as much as Wagner); Andres Segovia; Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys; Flatt & Scruggs; Motown; R&B; Bluegrass.
The late great Andres Segovia
Movies
All That Jazz (I was a fan of Bob Fosse's work & love Roy Scheider, so the combination was a treat for me); My Favorite Year; A Hard Day's Night (for nostalgic reasons, plus it was a pretty good movie); The African Queen; Airplane!; Field Of Dreams; The Natural; any of "The Thin Man" series.
Speaking of my favorite movie....(Hospital Hallucinations)
Television
Current:
Law & Order (the original); McLaughlin Group; 60 Minutes.
Reruns (when I can find them): Murphy Brown; Quantum Leap; M*A*S*H* (the first 3 seasons); Hunter; The Twilight Zone.
Books
The Camerons; The Best Of Families; Little Women; anything by Kurt Vonnegut; anything by Catherine Cookson. Sorry I can't think of any heavy-duty reading right now.
Heroes
Robert F. Kennedy (the reason I became a Democrat at the age of 12) - he may have been an SOB in some instances, but I really believe he cared. He caused me to see the need to change myself & the need for change around me. 39 years later & things HAVE changed, but in ways unimaginable back then.
About me:
I love anything to do with computers - I am a true geek. I've been working on PCs pretty much non-stop for the last 6 years (no, not the same ones, silly!) & "helped" for 6 years before that (looking things up, finding drivers, boring but neccesary stuff). A good chunk of my time is spent trying to clean out other peoples' computers. We warn them about viruses & trojans, but they ignore us until it's too late.
I'll try to think of something more interesting later. This will be my 9th website & there's not that much to say.
Rod Serling/The Twilight Zone Take 5 Rocky & Bullwinkle MAD Magazine Viet Nam Flower Power 1968 Robert F. Kennedy Richard Nixon The Chicago 8 Conspiracy Trial & seeing the drawings of Bobby Seale gagged & tied to his chair (I was living in the Chicago suburbs at the time, it was a nightly story on the local news). Mike Royko Kent State Watergate Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. The Seventies The Reagan/Bush years Clinton's impeachment for not keeping his pants zipped Bush II (esp. the 2000 election) Invasion of Iraq (before "mission accomplished" in Afghanistan - Bin Laden's still on the loose).
Actually, it's only through to Vonnegut that I was molded; everything after has just reinforced my beliefs & mis-trust of authority/ government. But, change is good, no? Throw the bums out!
---------------
For a visual representation of what formed my views, here is the original promo film for the song Dialogue, written by Robert Lamm. It is on the classic album Chicago V with a slightly different ending. This is the original according to that great friend of all Chicago fans, ChicagoKid69. Thank you Jamie for allowing us to embed these videos. The images & the powerful lyrics are as pertinent today as they were 35 years ago. It's a damn shame, too.
Who I'd like to meet: Dave Brubeck & Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.
Edit in May 3, 2007: Kurt Vonnegut has died, so that leaves just Brubeck.

Speaking of Dave, a treat from 1961, with the original quartet. There are other performances of "Take Five" on YouTube, but I like this one best. Although Gene Wright (bass) doesn't get much face time or solo time (check out St. Louis Blues by the quartet for some wonderful Gene) & there isn't much Dave to be seen, Paul Desmond (sax) is so wonderful here & Joe Morello (drums) shows the truth of "less is more".
Here's this guy (Paul Desmond, who also wrote the piece) who looks like your dentist playing for the Rotary Club dance night & out comes the epitome of cooool.
That is too funny!!! I just re read that blog last week!
The light sabre we had was pretty lame. It didn't even light up...I wonder what he'll want to be this year. He's so BIG now, people will think he's too old. He's 11, but he's about 5'9". I'm about to post a blog. You should enjoy it!!! Stay tuned.
HAHAHAHA...checked out the Sleepy Hollow promo. I recognized the shopping center and the hospital. Talk about a time warp watching that! The address you want I am sending to your email, xxxooo
So, Normie hasn't melted. Now it looks like he'll probably run for governor. Because our Governor (who has a dictator complex) is going to throw his hat in the ring for prez in 2012. Everyone thought he was going to be McCain's running mate. He kissed McCain's ass enough. He would have been a classier choice, at least on the surface, but now he's making all these cuts on his own because he refuses to call a special legislative session. I think he has a little dick complex. Our state is just full of psychos in power. Are they all drawn to politics? I don't get it.
Oh my....she really is nuts. But like the one guy said in his comments. Give them all the lime light they want. That just adds fuel to the fire for the elections in 2012. It makes them look even more ridiculous. She is insane, though. I am amazed she was re elected. But like the one comment said, she represents one district, not the whole state. It is maddening though, that we can't put a stop to this whole Coelman fiasco. You lost, get over. Quit harassing the infirm of the state and move on with your life.
I forgot to try the baking soda last night. I'll give it a shot this weekend. I'm still stiff.
Thanks for that link about Michelle Bachman. I have not heard anything about her lately, but I have stayed out of the news loop for a while. I'll have to check it out.
I'm not TOO stiff from my fall yesterday. Mostly embarrassed. Baking soda, huh? I've never heard of that. I'll try that tonight.
Thanks for the comment. I'll have to check out our insane Bachman. We're so proud....sheesh.
One more thing: Washington Republicans are backing Coleman in his efforts to appeal. If that's the case, why is his campaign calling people like my Mother, who has dementia to contribute to his "campaign"?
So, Norm Coleman lost and now he is appealing the decision. How long before we actually have a senator? He is actually prepared to go to the US Supreme court. I'm REALLY sick of this! GIVE up already, LOSER! (Thanks for letting me vent!! :D)
