Kauhukakara was formed in Autumn 2006 in Goetheburg. Anni, Pauli, Tuomas and Joonas met at the Goetheburg university of music and drama, where they all studied at that moment, and started to do music together. Before Kauhukakara all these musicians have been playing together a lot in a different constellations but never with this kind of setting. The first idea was to start a different new band together. Because all of their drummer friends were more or less occupied at that moment they decided to not have a drummer. However, after discussing about what kind of material the band should concentrate on, everybody began to write music for Kauhukakara. The concept formed basically by the compositions and the band started to find its own voice and way to solve the non-drummer "problem".
Kauhukakara's music could be described as a children music for adults, maybe because of their childish joyful melodies and funny sounds. They are using various instruments (bass sax, toy synths, prepared piano, clockenspiel, various strange percussions, penny whistle, acoustic bass case, etc..) and are also capable to use their voice to make sounds. Its hard to place Kauhukakara into some specific genre or style. It could be something between jazz band and classical quartet because it has qualities from both. And what comes to musical influences... Well, its pretty much everything every member has listened to during their life, but just to be more specific here's some: Mika Pohjola, Hermeto Pascoal, various classical composers, M. A. Numminen, Gentle Giant, Genesis, Gong, Pauli Lyytinen, Anni Egecioglu, Tuomas A. Turunen and Joonas Kuusisto.
Soon, after rehearsing some nice but very challenging compositions, they booked a recording session which lead to a whole album of music. At the same time their good old friend Tapio Ylinen was working .. his own record label and it was quite clear that the band would release their first album on Eclipse Music -label, which finally happened 15th of June 2008.
Here's how Eclipse Music described Kauhukakara:
"Their music combines the tonal qualities of modern jazz with classical and folk influences. The compositions of Pauli Lyytinen and Joonas Kuusisto are colourful in melody and rich in humour. With almost a childlike quality in the composition these are still the works of seasoned professionals. Imaginetive and technically brilliant."

"...ja pullapoika oli syönyt kaiken kakun ja sotannut kermavaahtoa ja mansikkahilloa ympäri keittiötä. Siitäkös opettaja suuttui ja komensi koko konkkaronkan ulos parvekkeelle miettimään tekemisiään. No senhän arvaa mitä siitä seuraa..."
