Kaylyn Elaine Warren
June 8, 1988 - March 13, 2007
I guess you could say Kaylyn has always loved to sing. When she was small she would sing TV commercials and knew every show’s theme song by heart and proceeded to sing them - all the time – loudly!
Kay began voice lessons at age 11 with Sara Hocking of the Philadelphia Opera Company. Also during that time Kaylyn sang with the Delaware Children’s Choir at the Wilmington Music School.
She began attending Red Lion Christian Academy in the fall of 2000, and continued voice lessons with the school’s music director, Beth Phillips. After Beth move out of state, Kay studied with Rosa Ann Faulkner of Wilmington.
On October 15, 2005, Kaylyn was diagnosed with ALL, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. While undergoing chemotherapy treatment she was able to complete her senior year by doing an independent home study, and then graduated with honors.
Kaylyn loved acting along with singing and participated in RLCA’s school’s musicals from seventh through twelfth grades. Even though the 2006 production was a challenge due to chemo treatments, she was able to perform a ten minute monologue and sing “Tomorrow” to open the play, “Annie Warbucks.” Kaylyn was a member of the RLCA’s Women’s Ensemble, mixed choir, and the worship team. She sang and won awards, both for solo performances and with the women’s ensemble at the Association of Christian School International, High School Fine Arts Festival and participated in the Delaware All State Mixed Choir – Soprano II. Also during high school, Kay attended the 2004, Governors School of Excellence, being one of three sopranos from the state of Delaware to be chosen.
Kaylyn sang in several weddings including one in October of 2002, in Williamsburg, Va. and in July of 2003, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
She was invited to sing the National Anthem at Vicmead Hunt Club in the summer of 2004, at the Twentieth Annual Salute honoring Delaware Congressman, Mike Castle, and again sang the anthem at the opening ceremonies of the New Castle County, Bear Babe Ruth season. She also enjoyed singing the anthem at RLCA sporting events, especially basketball games.
But the place Kaylyn loved to sing the most was at church or at church functions. God certainly blessed her with the voice of an angel. She loved to praise God with her voice and is now praising Him with the heavenly choir in Paradise!
