Biography
Regarded by music industry insiders as one of the most talented up-and-coming young artists, M.O.B. is proving that they are hip-hop’s brightest new stars. The judges of the 16th annual 2008 Billboard World Songwriting Contest, consisting of A & R professionals knowledgeable in what it takes to succeed in today’s music and entertainment scene, selected M.O.B.’s “Head Right” for best song, hip-hop category. In addition to winning the Billboard Songwriters Award, M.O.B. won the Midwest DJ & Urban Music A & R Showcase, an event supported by over 300 DJ’s from across the U.S., once again demonstrating that they have what it takes to dominate the airwaves and top the Billboard music charts today.
“Setting the City on Fire” is more than the name of M.O.B.’s first 13-track mixed – it is a prophecy as M.O.B. has literally caught on fire, city after city, throughout the Midwest region from Indianapolis to Cincinnati, Bloomington to Harrisburg, and all the way down the east coast to major cities like Orlando, headlining shows on stages at Indiana State University, The Madame Walker Theater, The Hip Hop Showdown, the Millennium Music Conference and The Caribbean Village Nightclub, to name a few. M.O.B. has reached a broad range of audiences in venues such as nightclubs and bars, public schools and universities, outdoor parks and festivals, conferences and showcases, corporate and non-for-profit concerts, packing the house in every arena, highlighting their universal appeal to all age groups and cultures.
M.O.B is Khiry Day “KD” and Anthony Beck aka “Buke”, two cousins ages 17 and 18, hailing from Indianapolis “Nap.” The two emerging artists have been making beats, producing, engineering, writing, and rapping since they met in high-school. A prolific song-writing machine, M.O.B. hasn’t slowed down after the success of “Setting the City on Fire.” Following their first 13-song debut in March of ’09, the artists have scheduled a second album to be released in June, 2009 titled “The Life We Livin’.” The second release will feature 12 more radio-ready songs. M.O.B promotes their music and merchandise through street-teaming, label representation, myspace, tunecore, itunes, rhapsody, napster, Nap Town, and more. In just a short time, they have generated fans worldwide in the U.S., UK, Japan, and Germany with over 30,000 hits on MySpace.
Their 2009 smash single “Bounce” was launched with critical acclaim by 96.3 FM Radio, followed by radio rotation, statewide and abroad, including: Radio 96 Chicago, Radio 96 Colorado, Radio 99.5 Indianapolis, Radio 98 Montana, Radio 1 Spain, Radio 105, Italy, Radio M20 Italy, and Virgin Radio Italy. M.O.B. has been well-received by numerous DJ’s like DJ Box at World Wide Radio, DJ Hip Hop, DJ Boz and DJ Reflex. The media attention doesn’t stop on the airwaves - In April 2009, M.O.B. will be featured on the cover of Hype Magazine, a printed journal with a extensive subscription base and marketing saturation in Midwest nightclubs, liquor stores, and retail. Alongside Hype Magazine, M.O.B. can be seen in three issues of Leaked Magazine - January, February, and March. Leaked features the best up-and-coming urban talent in the Midwest. On the screen and video, M.O.B has been viewed on IMC, Independent Music Channel 19 TV and the artists will be releasing a professional video in collaboration with Arlington High-school cheerleading squad to target their fan- base.
Finally, there is no question that M.O.B. are truly “Men of Business” as KD and Buke make a concerted effort to give back to their community by partnering with numerous charitable organizations to host large-scale fundraisers (such as St. Jude’s Hospital), where they have raised thousands of dollars and awareness for children fighting cancer, storm victims, and families in need of shelter, food and medical supplies.
