The Philadelphia music scene is definitely one to be reckoned with. Music artist like Gillie Da Kid, Beanie Sigel, Freeway, Reed, Dollaz, Meek Mill, Joey Jihad and many more have been very influential in putting Philly on the map. A new rap sensation that goes by the name of KDON looks to set his mark among the greats in the industry.
Born of Puerto Rican descent and raised in the North Philadelphia part of the city, he (like many others) was exposed to the elements that destroyed the lives of his peers and also family members. Drugs, murder, oppression and of course poverty were some of the things that had an affect on his life. He writes music that “speaks from the heart”. He stated, “I was raised around poverty and witnessed some of my closest family members die from drug usage and also murder. What I hope to do is give people a glimpse into my past and constantly speak on what’s real. I know you hear many rappers say that all the time, but I actually lived to see a lot, or actually go through them same obstacles.”
KDON has written over 100 songs, not only for himself but for other local recording artist as well. He has written songs like “Call Me” and “Best Friends” which was sung by Young Manny an up-and-coming R&B singer, he has worked with “Young Swift” Danny Garcia in helping to get his music career off the ground and collaborated with Joey Jihad in some mixtape material. His musical influences come from Philly Music as a whole, Tupac Shakur, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Jay-Z, Biggie, Temptations, and so much more. “I listen to all types of music. I’m not afraid to be diverse.”
He started a rap group called the Trap Boys, which is an acronym that stands for “The Real Ambition is to Pursue Better Opportunities Yearning for Success”. KDON said this about his new group “Trap Boys is all about a hustle and we definitely represent that. It doesn’t necessarily mean we on the block. It just means we going to get money regardless.” Trap Boys is a bunch of up-coming rap artist from all over Philly ready to hit the industry by storm. KDON has also launched KDON TV, a You Tube channel that will feature exclusive music videos by KDON and his artists, interviews, video blogs and so much more. Stay tuned for much more from this young promising talent.
