Kebnekajse was born one summernight in 1970. First album, Resa Mot Okänt Mål (Journey towards unknown goal),was released -71 by Silence Rec AB. Before the second album, (you can see the cover on the profile area,) Kebnekajse took a step into the world of Swedish fiddle music, and found a music treasure yet not explored.
Hårgalåten, Barkbrödslåten ...polska, 3/4 beat, schottis, 4/4 a bit like reggae, marches and so on. So the album with no particular name but "the blue", were dominated by those kind of tunes.

The name Kebnekajse is taken from the name of the highest mountain of Sweden. It was a kind of high time. Also in the third album there were a lot of fiddle tunes and also some own compositions. That one is named "the Brown".
Because of that the percussionist is from Guinea, and that he brought a lot of African music with him, the next album, "Ljus från Afrika" (Lights from Africa), had songs that he, Hassan Bah, introduced. "Sili Fe", "Bele mama", "Bonsé na bonsè" ...an other world of music. Though different parts of the world, and different tongue, the music styles fitted well together.
After this one came "Elefanten", "the Elephant", and there the music style had changed into a more jazz/rockish area, a little like Ponty and MacLaughlin.
Not too long after this, 1976, the band made a major change, and the last album of the first era was "Vi drar vidare", ~"We are moving on".
It then took 25 years before Kebnekajse entered the stage again. In February 2009 a new CD is released, "Kebnekajse 2009", and again with tunes from the Swedish world of fiddle music. And a new tour is on the way.
