GeneralPRE-DANCE (ages 2 - 5) ...for children with no dance experience The Pre-Dance classes are designed to begin the student’s education in the fundamentals of Ballet and Tap. Thirty minutes of the 60-minute class will be dedicated to Ballet and the remainder of the time will be for Tap. Students will learn movement in fun and creative ways that keep the child’s interest while nurturing a love for dance. BEGINNING DANCE (ages 6 - 8) ...for children with little or no dance experience This 60-minute class that is divided in three sections for the student to study Ballet, Tap and Jazz. Each week, the student will spend thirty minutes of class time studying Ballet and alternating bi-weekly, the students will use the remainder of the time to study Tap and Jazz. This class serves as an introduction to Dance and gives a child with limited dance experience a better idea of their strengths in each technique. INTERMEDIATE and ADVANCED CLASSES Intermediate: Students ages 9-12 with 2 years previous dance experience Advanced: Students 13 and older with previous dance experience at the Intermediate level BALLET Ballet is the core of all dance. Classes are offered with European technique training in a standard Ballet class format. Warm-up will begin each class, followed by barre exercises, center and across the floor, followed by a cool-down at the end of class. Focuses include proper placement, alignment, balance, technique and terminology. TAP Tap is all about rhythm! Classes consist of standard tap technique with concentration on intricate rhythmic patterns and footwork — challenging and fun! ACRO This class is an exciting fusion between gymnastics and dance. Students will learn tumbling passes and tricks as well as gain flexibility and upper-body strength. A new favorite! JAZZ Jazz features a stylized, fast-paced performance. Jazz styles will vary from Classic to Urban, and Broadway, with standard Jazz technique concentrating on body isolations, turns and leaps. MODERN/CONTEMPORARY Graham-styled modern technique or Yoga will begin these classes. The students will learn the principles of modern and contemporary dance and explore using different types of energy to move the body. Students will also learn some massage therapy techniques in exploring the use of passive muscle energy as well as gaining flexibility and muscle control. HIP~HOP Students will learn current urban dance styles and routines to current Hip-Hop music while also learning rhythm and musicality. This class is designed to let the students explore their own unique individuality through the Hip-Hop style. PRIVATE LESSONS (personal or for competition) Private lessons are done in 30 minute slots and can focus on and reinforce any area of dance you wish. One-on-one time can help struggling students or make any student stronger. Competition pieces will also be choreographed within private lessons.

MoviesThe Expressions Company, founded in 2005, was created for the more serious dancer who has a love for dance and a passion for the stage. Expressions is made up of a select group of auditioned KEDA students ranging from beginners to advanced. Divided into two mini-companies (Juniors and Seniors) The Expressions Company studies and performs dance from every style offered at Kinetic Expressions Dance Academy. The Expressions Company will perform at local dance shows, competitions, retirement homes and school functions, as well as perform two main-stage productions per year. In past years, Expressions has performed at Port Orange Family Days, the Volusia County Dance Showcase and a charity event for Hospice of Volusia County. They have also taught workshops and performed at schools from Port Orange to Edgewater as well as produced their own original productions of "Kinetic Nutcracker", "Peter Pan", "Toyland" and "Kinetic Oz". Designed to educate the students in choreography, performance and professionalism, The Expressions Company gives KEDA students an opportunity to be part of a team and a member of a real dance company. With the group growing every year in size as well as repertoire, Expressions hopes to expand their services as well by continuing to perform within the community. THE EXPRESSIONS COMPANY REQUIREMENTS All students must be auditioned to become a member of The Expressions Company and for production casting. Dress code for auditions is standard black and pink, with all dance shoes at hand. No jewelry or baggy clothes. Auditions begin at 10:00 am sharp! All auditioning students must be enrolled in a Ballet class at KEDA (even though The Expressions Company does dance from EVERY style, Ballet is the most important and the core of all dance types) Students must be able to attend rehearsals on Saturdays between the hours of 10:00 am and 2:00 pm (all Company members will not be required to stay all 4 hours unless specified on your monthly schedule) All Company members will have a $200/semester Company Fee to be paid at the time of auditions, or add $50.00 a month Company Fee to monthly class tuition payments. Since the Company funds their own productions (from costumes to sets), Company Fees will go directly to a Company account to defray these costs. All Company members must purchase a company warm-up suit and make-up kit, mandatory for all performances and competitions.

MEET MISS CRYSTAL Crystal J. Draper, Owner and Director, is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, and began her studies in dance at the young age of two at the Anneliese Von Ottengin School of Ballet (AVO), one of the first European ballet schools formed in the Midwest. There she was trained intensively in the European method of ballet for over 10 years. While studying at AVO, she was accepted in the school's acclaimed performing company where she was featured as a Soloist and Principal Dancer. She later became an Associate Instructor and taught at the school for a period in college. Crystal attended high school at the School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) in Cincinnati, Ohio, as a Dance and Music Theater Major. At SCPA, Crystal studied classical Ballet, Tap, Martha Graham Modern technique as well as, Broadway-style Jazz and Hip-Hop within SCPA's Music Theater Ensemble. During high school, Crystal was chosen to participate in a junior college intensive study program at The Juilliard School in New York City. There she was given the opportunity to study Ballet and Modern, as well as regular curriculum classes, with the students and faculty of The Juilliard School. Through SCPA, Crystal was also given the opportunity to dance with the Cincinnati Ballet in numerous performances as well as perform as a guest dancer in a nationally televised Cincinnati Pops Orchestra New Year's Eve Celebration concert. After graduating from the School for Creative and Performing Arts in 1999, the dance fever didn’t stop. Crystal decided to continue her dance education at the college level. With the opportunity to study at The Juilliard School, Crystal decided that her college career should not only better the quality of her dancing, but better the quality of her mind as well. In the fall of 1999, Crystal attended Shenandoah University and Conservatory in Winchester, Virginia, as a double major in Dance and Psychology. During her college career, Crystal studied Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Composition and Choreography and performed in over twenty main-stage performances. She also performed with the University’s Outreach Touring Dance Company in which she performed and taught at elementary schools all over central Virginia. Crystal was also able to hone her Hip-Hop skills as a dancer and choreographer for the Shenandoah University Dance Team. In May of 2003, Crystal graduated from Shenandoah University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Dance and a Minor in Psychology. Upon graduating from college, Crystal moved to Florida and began teaching here in Daytona Beach at The Dance Company at Retro Studios in August of 2003 as an Associate Instructor. In March of 2004, Crystal took over ownership of Retro Studios and it became what is now known as Kinetic Expressions Dance Academy (KEDA). "Dancing is my life. It is what I live, breath and dream, and the ultimate expression of who I am. I have a passion for movement, an excitement for teaching and a dream to shape the future of young aspiring dancers. To share this passion with my students and through Kinetic Expressions Dance Academy is truly a gift."
MEET MISS JULIE Julie Hackler, Associate Dance Instructor, specializes in Tap, Acrobatics and Jazz, but has been classically trained in almost every style of dance since she was three years of age. Miss Julie has taught in studios all over the Tampa area since she was seventeen and has performed in and choreographed for various shows in the Tampa area as well. Fairly new to the Daytona Beach area, Miss Julie feels so blessed to be a part of the KEDA Family and hopes to share her love and passion for dance and help her students become the best that they can be!
MEET MISS DIANE Diane Swirka is the new magic behind the scenes at KEDA. Miss Diane has joined the KEDA family this 2008 Dance Season as our Public Relations Manager and will be the friendly voice of KEDA in order to promote what an excellent program we have!
