Who is Keiko Omata? “I love to try different things, mixing contemporary and classical music with jazz and brazilian rhythms like samba and bossa nova” -Keiko Omata Keiko Omata can be best described as a performer without labels, passing though various music styles with ease and vivacity. A poliglota (she can speak in English, Japanese, Portuguese and French), Keiko was born in Tokyo, Japan where she learned piano and received a bachelors degree in French language (Caritas Junior College) and French literature (Rikyo University). While in Japan Keiko was inspired by the music of Ella Fitzgerald and Lisa Ono and became a fan of jazz and bossa nova, this eventually led her to pursue a career in performance, composition and the music business. In 1994, Keiko won the grand-prix prize at the “Asakusa Jazz Festival”. This created an opportunity to travel to Australia to participate in the “Manly Jazz Festival”. With the intention to study and learn more about Brazilian music, she landed in Brazil in 1999 and started to sing in Porto Alegre (in the state of Rio Grande do Sul) with Gelson Oliveira (Brazilian Popular Music singer and composer).She continued her musical studies and eventually recieved a bachlors in Classical Music Composition from the Brasilian Conservatory of Music in 2005 (studying with Prof. Geraldo Vespar).She is now living in Rio de Janeriro, doing recitals and various shows. Keiko’s career developed in various music fields in Brazil where she was responsible for a Japanese language project using music and theatre with the support of the Japan Foundation ( Japanese governmental organization) making songs in Japanese for the primary schools of the University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and also realized the project “Singing a history of Japanese immigrants” dedicated to the early Japanese who immigrated to Brazil – her arrangements and performances, were held at various theatres like Sala Baden Powell, Centro Cultural Justiça Federal and Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil etc...Because of her versatility, she also does work conducting and arranging for choirs. Keiko has also worked with Roberto Menescal and Wanda Sá on the TV Program “Bossa nova, Sol Nascente” (Bossa nova in the rising sun) and has studied percussion with Lan Lan, flute with Lena Horta and Opera with José Hue, Ricardo Tuttman, Patrícia Vilches and Sergio Labor. With her powerful stage presence, and fascinating style, Keiko continues to perform regularly, and is currently working on a bachlors degree in Classical Conducting at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
小俣景鼓って誰－Who is Keiko Omata? 「いろいろな種類の音楽を聞くのが好きです。現代音楽とクラシック音楽にジャズやボサノバ、サンバのようなMPBのリズムあるいは、もっと他に何かあったらそれも混ぜて、自分だけの音楽を作るのが好きです。」このように彼女は自分の音楽性について語る。演奏者として、自分にレッテルを貼ることをしない。MPBだけ、jazzだけ、もしくはオペラだけを歌うのではなく、いろいろな音楽の影響をうけていても、それ一つのジャンルに縛られて歌うということをしない。英語、日本語、ポルトガル語、フランス語が堪能である彼女は、東京に生まれ。5歳から19歳までピアノを学ぶ。フランス語をカリタス女子短期大学、フランス文学を立教大学で学んだ。 20歳で、エラ・フィッツジェラルドの歌に感動し、小野リサの軽快なボサノバに惹かれて、ジャズとボサノバに目覚め、音楽活動を始める。 1994年、「浅草ジャズフェスティバル」というコンクールにて、グランプリ受賞、コンクールのプレミアとしてオーストラリアのマンリー市におけるジャズフェスティバルに参加。 1999年、ブラジル音楽の真髄に触れようと、ブラジルに渡る。リオ・グランデ・デ・スール州のポルト・アレグリ（エリス・レジーナの故郷）にて音楽活動を開始、当地において、MPBの歌手、ジェウソン・オリベーラとジョイントするなどして活躍する。また、リオに移り、ボサノバのアレンジャーとして知られる作曲家ジェラルド・ヴェスパール氏に師事、ブラジル音楽院にてクラシック音楽の作曲法を学び、 2005年、同学院を卒業する。ブラジルにおける彼女の仕事は多岐に渡っている。国際交流基金からの援助を得て、「音楽と劇を使った日本語」という課題でリオ・デ・ジャネイロ州立大学付属小学校の生徒向けに、日本語教材の研究をしていた。 2008年が日本移民100年祭であったことを受けて、ブラジル日系人の歴史を歌と語りで紹介するという、「歌おう移民史」というショーをプロデュース。自らアレンジを担当し、歌でショーに参加。リオ市内の各地劇場にて上演、好評を博した。又、コーラス団体の指揮や、ボイストレーナーとしても活躍している。ボサノバの巨匠、ロベルト・メネスカル、バンダ・サといった大物ミュージシャンとリオのテレビ番組で共演。その他にもブラジルのマスコミから多数取材を受けている。パーカションをブラジルのパーカッショニスト、ランラン、フルートをレーナ・オルタ（トニーニョ・オルタの妹）、オペラをジョゼ・ユー、リカルド・トゥッチマン、パトリシア・ヴィウチェス、セルジオ・ラボールに師事。舞台での存在感と、その魅惑的な声とで、観客を惹きつけることの出来る歌手、作曲家。現在は、リオ州立大学音楽部の指揮科に所属。勉強を続けている。
Quem é Keiko Omata "Gosto de experimentar coisas diferentes, misturando música contemporânea e erudita com o ritmo do jazz, da MPB, do samba, da bossa-nova e o que mais existir", assim a japonesa Keiko Omata se define, como uma intérprete sem rótulos, que não canta somente MPB, ou jazz, ou ainda música erudita, mas que passeia com desenvoltura por variados estilos musicais. Poliglota (ela fala em inglês, japonês, português e francês), Keiko nasceu na cidade de Tókio, no Japão, onde estudou piano e formou-se em língua pela Caritas University e literatura francesa pela Universidade de Rikyo. Ainda no Japão, por intermédio da cantora Ella Fitzgerald e Lisa Ono, se apaixonou pelo jazz e bossa-nova e decidiu ingressar no mundo da música, fazendo apresentações em eventos. Em 1994 ganhou o primeiro lugar no concurso "Asakusa Jazz Festival" e viajou para a Austrália para participar do Festival de Jazz da Cidade Manly. Tendo como objetivo aprender e conhecer melhor a música brasileira, em 1999 a cantora desembarcou no Brasil, fazendo carreira em Porto Alegre (RS), se apresentando com o cantor e compositor de MPB, Gelson Oliveira. Prosseguindo em seus estudos relativos à música, tornou-se bacharel em Composição da Música Erudita pelo Conservatório Brasileiro de Música em 2005(Foi aluna do Prof. Geraldo Vespar.) Seus trabalhos no Brasil são múltiplos. Foi a responsável pela programação da confecção de material de japonês utilizando música e teatro, pela Fundação do Japão;(uma organização governamental do Japão), fez músicas em japonês para o Colégio de Aplicação da Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) e idealizou e executou o projeto "Cantando a história dos imigrantes", relativo a seus conterrâneos japoneses que vieram construir suas vidas em terras brasileiras - que consistia em shows com arranjos seus apresentados na Sala Baden Powell, no Centro Cultural Justiça Federal e no Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil e outros. Mostrando versatilidade, também é regente e arranjadora de corais. Já cantou com Roberto Menescal e Wanda Sá (programa Bossa Nova, Sol Nascente) e foi aluna da percursionista Lan Lan, da flautista Lena Horta e dos professores de canto José Hue, Ricardo Tuttman, Patrícia Vilches e do Sergio Labor. Com uma presença de palco surpreendente e dona de uma voz forte e encantadora, a japonesa Keiko se dedica atualmente a finalização de seu curso de bacharel em Regência pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).
