Interests

  • General

I like stuff that is useful, practical, multi-purpose, and convenient. Like a hook on my key chain, convertible cargo pants, station wagons, various containers, and pockets.
  • Music

I find my taste expanding all the time. In general, I like music that can play in the background without getting in my way or intruding my mental space excessively. I also like music that I can listen to repeatedly without getting tired of it. I have a hard time making choices.
  • Movies

I don't like scary or violent movies. My husband thinks this is hypocritical because I don't mind a little gore in the context of a medical documentary. I think he's full of shit. I am going to be a nurse someday, after all, and I do draw blood for a living now.
  • Television

  • Books

I should read my textbooks, but for some reason I've yet to find it has any relation to my grades. UPDATE: NO TEXTBOOKS UNTIL SEPTEMBER! WHOOOHOO! Someday, I hope to have time to read sci-fi novels again. I love looooooong books. I started the Baroque Cycle a while ago but lost interest because I didn't have time for it. Books are like friends. If I'm reading a good one, I get really sad when I finish it. I tend to return to old favorites in times of stress. I've read and re-read Dune and Dune Messiah countless times (along with the rest of the original Dune series). I also read the Foundation Trilogy a lot. I need to find some new books to read. Be careful when discussing books with me, because if you haven't read Dune and I think I could get you to, I will buy you a copy. I love giving books as gifts.

Blurbs

About me:

I'm multi-talented. I draw blood for a living. Among my many other skills are forklift operation, banking, cooking, sewing, and maintaining straight A's in college while raising an infant. I'm the kind of person who wears their keys on a hook attached to their belt loop. However, I still manage to lose them at least several times per week. Before the hook, I lost them several times per day. I resent the need for keys in the first place, and wish I could just use my fingerprint for everything instead. If I'm making took much noise with rattling keys while walking around, I put the hook on my belt loop then tuck the keys into my pocket. Unfortunately, I recently lost my keys forever because I didn't have the hook on them at the time. I hoard scraps of cardboard, but I've recently raised my standards to only save pieces that are truly perfect. I have a lot of rubber bands from the time I was 16 and planning on making the world's largest rubber band ball. I called a rubber band manufacturer and told them my plans so they sent me a huge box of samples. I never finished. Thirteen years later, I still have quite a few left. The rubber band ball got to be about halfway in between the size of a softball and a soccer ball. I don't remember what happened to it. I have a one-year old daughter and I believe strongly in compassionate "attachment parenting" - breastfeeding, co-sleeping, child-led weaning, non-crying-it-out methods, and gentle guidance. This is getting challenging as she still wakes up 6+ times per night asking for "mook" but I am her mom and it's my job! I look forward to getting a good night's sleep again sometime before I die.

Who I'd like to meet:

It's okay if you are a little bit cuckoo, but please don't waste my time if you are flaky, chronically late and/or slow-moving, heavily fragranced, excessively vain, or otherwise lame.
